Woohoo Dropped the hood off at the paint shop today
I should get it back on Tuesday. They computer matched the color. They want me to drive the car there again on monday so they can make sure the color is right after they bake it and adjust the paint mix if it's not. The shop seems pretty good and specializes in Vette's and fiberglass. It's East Coast auto body in Manassas.
I'll post pics when I get it back.

Just out of curiousity, how much did that cost if you don't mind?
I had mine quoted at $600, just wondering if that is resonable.
Thanks, looks good BTW :)

$400 total and that's including some fiberglass repair. If it's just a paint job $600 is about double what it should cost.

You're lucky Steve, the shops I went to wanted me to do the color matching at the paint shop and then they insisted on painting most of the front end?? They said that's the only way to really match with the rest of the vehicle.
Price for that??? $725!
I bought a gun and will eventually buy the color match paint and give it a go myself. I can spend the $500 or so difference on something else. :smash:

Nice! I hope I can get mine in before the spring gets here. But I'm falling behind on my projects! :cry
I take it you are just having the hood itself done right? You dont need to do any blending correct???

matching colors can be very difficult, especially if the paint is old and wasn´t protected by a clear coat. Sun will change the color so much that it´s nearly impossible to have no difference after repainting.
I made some experiences a along time ago with my other vehice btw it was painted red.
Even with the help of a computer analysis they were unable to mix a matching color.
Stingray70, your car has a two color paint job, ever thought about painting the raised part of your L88 hood in the lower color of your car?
That´s something I would consider, for sure
Steve, hop everything turns out wellfor you, it´s a good sign that they say they wanna doublecheck the color of your car with their own eyes again.
You just wouldn´t believe what "matching color" the computer suggested for my other car

Steve...I've got a primered L88 hood on my car that needs paint as well. I've always assumed the paint couldn't be matched because I had no idea what specific color code it was. Does the matching involve a computer scan of some sort...similar to how they match paint at Home Depot, etc?

I've been wondering how much longer you'd be able to stand a mismatched hood color. ;)

Hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of posting the pictures of your hood.
This was just too cool not to share.
I hosted these on aol hometown, which is hurting at the moment, so these may load kind of slow. I just donated 10 Sun E4500's from a product that I decommissioned in my system to the hometown team, so it should speed up any day now.
