Default Modulator Valve

What does a modulator valve do? I was having problems on my T 350 and after they checked it, it started slipping. I discovered tonight the hose is off the valve and making a hissing noise. Didn't have time to put it back on and check it out so I came to the experts.

Would this cause it to slip, too?

Thanks in advance!!
Dan  :seeya

IM PRETTY SURE THAT WHEN MY VACUM HOSE CAME OFF OF MINE IT JUST TOOK THE TRANNY ALONG TIME TO SHIFT SAY AROUND 4500 rpm THAT IS IF WERE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING SO I DONT THINK IT WOULD MAKE THE TRANNY SLIP

After who checked what? The Mod. control what speed the trans shifts gears .On normal take off on a flat surface 1st to 2nd about 12mph 2nd to 3td about 27 mph. Some are adjustable [small screw in where hose goes to adjust for early or late shifts but wont cause slippage

When my modulator valve(back on the TH-350) was bad, my car started burning tranny fluid and made it take a loooooong time for the car to shift. Supposedly very easy to change these things.

When the vacuum came off the modulator on my TH400 it did the high up-shift thing. If I ran it up to like 35 in second and let off the gas, it felt like I was pushing in the clutch. Revs would fall off to 6-700. Then, when I stepped back on the gas, it(tranny) would not engage until I brought the revs up to where they were when I let off at speed. Kind of felt like slippage until it re-engaged. Is this what you're talking about? I'll bet whatever it is will go away when you re-connect the vacuum and drive it again. Good luck.
