Carb tuning for "cornering"
Finally took the G-Tech for a "G-force" run and could hardly keep the car @ 20mph in a full turn (steering wheel ALMOST at complete lock)...was sputtering like it was starving for gas, then stalled as I straightened it out.
(Did the same thing each attempt)
I realize this type of driving is NOT typical, but was surprised how poorly my carb performed.
Carter 600 (9605) stock jets / rods, floats adjusted to specs.
Should I raise the floats or just NOT drive like this again!
BTW, pulled an "amazing" 0.69G! (sarcasm off)..but then the tires never broke free so could probably have done better...???
Ideas / Opinions?
Thanks

IF (and only IF) I remember correctly . . .
That is a failing of the Weber-made Carter/Edelbrock carbs.
They are based on the old AFB design, which was also notorious for gagging and puking during "spirited" cornering. I do not recall the specifics, but I believe turning one way causes a lean condition, turning the other causes a rich condition.
The solution is to go to a carb with center hung floats or EFI.

Found a link to back up my dim memory- http://www.idavette.net/hib/BBfHInet14.htm

Re: Carb tuning for "cornering" (DR'76)
Thanks 45ACP...that link has some good reading. It also saves me $$ and Time by not attempting to fix the Carter. EFI is the ultimate goal, but until then I must live w/ 0.69 G's! :smash:

That was one of the reasons the L-88's had Holley carbs. By the way, I just had a chance to work on a Demon carb, and that is one slick unit!

Center hung floats are a must for cornering. Unfortunately they're horrible for straight-line acceleration. So it goes with carbs, always a compromise.
