Default Engine paint?

On a 1978 L-48 what is the best manufacturer for the blue engine color? I have used duplicolor and some from Mid-American and they were different. Also what color is the firewall and engine compartment? Are they both the same semi-gloss black?

Dave, I think the best looking black and the closest to the factory is Krylon Semi-Flat Black. As for colors of the engine, Plasticote is pretty darned close to the original in the Orange color, I don't know about the GM Corporate blue that your engine was painted. I guess that any of them would be very close, since GM bought paint over a number of years from several suppliers and in thousands of lots. It would take something garishly wrong to really look wrong.

I know it's not factory correct, but I had my engine and tranny painted to match the car. :)

It's not blue, but I used VHT brand. Very easy to work with.

Another vote for VHT here. I've been using their chevy orange paint on my engine, and it's pretty good and easy to use. If it is or not close to the original color, I have no idea--I'm not even sure if I've ever seen an engine w/ original paint...

This was Eastwood's Engine Paint in GM Blue. Part #1319Z

Put it on almost 3 years ago and still looks the same.
