VERY INTERESTING...
CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's
contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and
Washington.
The findings are as follows......
1. Ford- contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross, matching
employee contributions of the same number, plus donating 10 Ford Excursions
to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and
office space to displaced government employees.
2. GM- contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross, matching employee
contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks.
3. DaimlerChrysler- contributed $10 million to support of the children and
victims of the Sept. 11 attack.
4. Harley-Davidson motorcycles- contributed $1 million and 30 new
motorcycles to the New York Police Dept.
5. Volkswagen- Employees and management created a Sept. 11th Foundation,
funded initially with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and
victims of the WTC attack.
6. Hyundai- contributed $300,000 to the American Red Cross.
7. Audi- Nothing.
8. BMW- Nothing.
9. Daewoo- Nothing.
10. Fiat- Nothing.
11. Honda- Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in
August 2001.
12. Isuzu- Nothing.
13. Mitsubishi- Nothing.
14. Nissan- Nothing.
15. Porsche- Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche
website.
16. Subaru- Nothing.
17. Suzuki- Nothing.
18. Toyota- Nothing despite claims of record sales in July and August 2001,
condolences posted on their website.

Whenever the time comes for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep
this information in mind. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign
car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United
States. It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but
it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis.

Please bear in mind that my company, SIEMENS, as well as many of the employees also contributed a great amount of money to the victims of Sept. 11th 2001!

Many companys use 9-11 in their marketing and commercials for their own gains, but who actually stepped up and helped? US born and bred.. the big three and Harley!! :cheers:

Keep it real, guys. It's always important to help those who help others. I've heard a cynical view that companies only put money in because it'd be great PR. But remember that these are corporations, and corporations exist SOLELY to make money. I believe that they put the donations of money, time, and equipment into the Red Cross, the city of NY, and others, because they felt the need to help. Milking the PR is fine with me -- No matter how good the cause, donations are red ink in the books and those 'losses' have to be recouped. I'm sure no execs at those companies would regret making those donations regardless of whether or not the PR earns them a single extra penny, but they have to try, money is what they do.

Hats off to all these companies, and especially to VW and Hyundai. GM, Ford, Harley, and Chrysler I am not suprised to see on that list. VW and Hyundai I did not.

And a big 'screw you' to Toyota and Porsche. Talk is cheap.

Frank, I too work for Siemens. I work for Osram/Sylvania in Maybrook, New York. We make compact flourescent light bulbs. We also contributed to 9-11.

I work for Motorola PCS. (Cell Phone Division) in Northern Illinois. Siemans is our biggest in house contractor, and Osram/Sylvania our biggest supplier for compact lamps at my 1.3 million sq. ft. facility. My company also donated various comunication devices to NYC.
