Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds
My next question in the engine building saga. Does anyone have any experience using one of these intakes? I am interested in keeping my stock hood until the time comes to paint. This may be a while at the rate I am going. So if any one is using on or knows of anyone using one let me know some opinions.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (Eddie 96)
The performer air gap should fit, whereas the Performer RPM airgap may or may not depending on who you ask. My understanding is there is little difference between the air gap model and the corresponding non-gap model (other than the air gap).
Frankly I'd like to see real world tests in a car (as opposed to dyno) that prove there is a real difference. I'm not all that convinced. (they look  )

Actually, if you have an early small block hood, you may have some clearance issues with either the edelbrock Performer airgap and certainly with the Performer rpm airgap. I think the Performer airgap and the Performer non-airgap have the same hight. But I also know Warp70 has a 350 sbc with a performer manifold (non-airgap) and an Edelbrock carb, and he has problems getting the hood closed. The later model hoods (like mine and fauxrs) have more clearance because of the larger hump.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (Eddie 96)
Please check out my posting with PICs for the answer to the RPM Air gap under a 69 hood (same as 70-72). I had to deal with much nay saying and prove it myself. But be careful and read all the detail of how it fits.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (Clink69)
Clink, that is a nice setup you have. I looked and if I understand you have no choke. I was hoping to have an electric choke. I guess I am going to have to start looking for a drop base on ebay. Thanks for the help.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (jdunne)
Here is a pic of a performer air gap with a 650 carb on top. I have my heater box out and put my camera inside and hit the button. This is on a 78 vette.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (Nomad78SA)
Thanks for the great pic Nomad. Is that the stock hood still? I am afraid that the 78 hood is probably gonna be higher in the middle than my 70 though. I am still probably gonna get the Air Gap and look for the drop base air cleaner.
Any more help out there.

Re: Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds (Eddie 96)
Many  have been running heat shields under the intake for years. The Performer should work w/ stock air cleaner all years. The Performer air gap only needs a little more room. (.27" taller than #2101)
There has never been a problem getting a RPM under the med. rise hood 73-79 w/ a drop base.
The reg. intakes look more stock & the air gap may only be needed for 160+ cruise.
