Re: gear ratio? (bryant080)
Welcome to the forum!!
There were three choices for 79: 3.36 to 1, 3.55 to 1, or 3.70 to 1.
Most likely for an automatic was 3.55 or 3.70.

Re: gear ratio? (bryant080)
The 3.36 and 3.70 were Manual tranny ratios only.
All 1979 Automatic Corvettes, both L48 and L82, used a 3.55 axle.

I feel that quoting the stock ratios for any performance car, especially a Vette is useful for resto only, in order to tell the easy way, is to jack rear of car up, wheels in air, put in neutral, and mark tires, and driveshaft, spin the driveshaft and count the turns, and when close to ONE tire revolution, carefully count the PERCENTAGE of the incomplete driveshaft rotation/turn...that will tell you the ratio.....
