Default How much HP will stock 3/8 fuel line support.

I am running two completly seperate fuel systems for my Nitrous injected 454. Both are fed by a seperate Holley blue pump and 3/8 fuel line. The motor makes approx 575 HP without the NOS. Is this large enough fuel line for that kind of HP. If it matters it is feeding a very hungry Holley 850 DP (flowed to 920) :chevy

Send Merlin522 a note, he just about wrote a paper on fuel line capacities, while he was sizing his fuel demands for his monster. I think he is using 3/4" Pipe for his fuel pumps. They flow something like 600 gallons an hour. :D

Good luck!

TIP: when going to a 3" exhaust, keep one side of of the old 2" system and re-plumb it for fuel. :D

I like the idea of the two-inch exhaust fuel line. I'd like to see the fittings into a monster carb. Maybe you could put a Big CAT engine from a 300 ton monster hauler in it. Hood clearance might be an issue.

Chris:
Where did you get that cowl induction hood from...or did you fabricate it yourself? How much does something like that run? Thanks!

I'm assuming your running two lines with two pumps. I would say you should be fine. My boss at my parttime job was running (10 years ago) a 68 Camaro with a carburated 512ci, that was running mid 9's in the 1/4 and he was running 3/8" line.

In my vette with the LS7 (468ci with a 750 Holley HP) I used both the stock 3/8" line and the 5/16" as a return line and never had a problem.

I think the size of the line has to do alot the with volume of the pump. In my Camaro I'm running a Paxton 300 pump and they recommended a #10 feed (gravity) and a #8 return line.

With the holley pumps your using, you can only flow so much fuel thru it, 3/8" should be fine.

69 Rat:
Which hood does he have? The only one that I saw was the 4.5" Dominator cowl induction hood. My buddy with the '80 454 Camaro currently has a 7" cowl induction hood .

BTW sorry about getting off topic with this post.

Bence: I think it is the 4" hood on his car. I was looking for something like that for my car so I could run a tall single plain intake, decided I wanted to look more stock and went with a L-88 instead. I checked out your photos today, pretty cool. The least time I was on that web site they had a choice of a 2" or a 4" :chevy

70LS7: Yes they are two totally seperate fuel lines. I thought the 3/8 would be O.K. but it is nice to be sure. both pumps are the Holley blue (110gph) :chevy

The simple answer is no. I had two Mallory Comp 140 pumps plumbed into a single dash 10 line up to the engine compartment. Then it split into two dash eight lines, carb and NOS system. I never had a fuel problem. Motor made 530 and 800 with the NOS. dash 10 is 3/4 and dash 8 is 1/2. I would have at least 1/2 on the car.
