found out it was a northern car and the frame was rusted...almost into two pieces...But the Body looked great...Red with a black top...It is in Maretta for sale...If someone needs a body this might do nicely...Interior was pretty good as well

Frames can be replaced!, temporarily fixed, yes prermanently----no. Expect to spend around 3200-3600 USD to replace frame with a reproduction one or $1700USD for a used one.

I'm looking for a frame for mine, but the prices are outrageous, I've been quoted $1900 for an 82 that had an engine fire(won't work because of the rear end) and a burnt up 79 for $1700USD.

Just curious. How can the car be sold without a safety check. That would not happen in this neck of the woods.

I highly doubt that the entire frame is rusted out end to end. I have seen a lot of rusty corvette frames and fixed quite a few, and have yet to see one that is completely rusted out end to end. You can buy parts for them, cut out the old part, and weld in a new one.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to find a junker crapped out 69-79 (I understand 68 has a SLIGHTLY different frame) and just use the frame from it?

I have a good body--frame man. He said don't ever turn down a good buy on a Corvette because of the frame. He showed me several ways to make them right. 1. cut out the rotted place and weld in a new piece.
2. cut a smaller channell piece and fit it inside the old piece for strength.
He said there are many ways to skin this cat.

If the price is right. It still might be a good deal.

You never said how much he is asking.

Its true, frames can be repaired or replaced. Just make sure you're ready to undertake the rest of the operation. If you pull the body to repair/replace the frame it would be silly not to rebuild the suspension, replace the brake lines, do the trailing arms, and have a serious look at the rear. Then, when you have that done you'll be unhappy with the body sitting on a restored chassis. Then after paint you'll hate the interior. It goes on and on....

Trust me. That's how I wound up having $25K into the 69 'vert I bought for $7900.

Don't forget about all those ugly stress cracks when the body-off is done. And oh yea, might as well strip down all those years of paint and do all necessary body work!!. :D
