Some "rebuilt parts" are junk. One ex. Did a starter on a ZX, it failed in less than a year! Told the auto parts store mgr. it was not even worth installing  even though free  ! We traded up to a Bosch rebuilt to fix. That did it.

DD,
You might want to take a look at your belt alignments or tension adjustments. I would think that in 5 tries, you would get at least one put together good enough to hold up. Especially if you run only electric fans and no clutch or fan blade to pressure the bearings.

its a conspiracy./
its a conspiracy to keep da white man down by subjugating our mexican brethren into knowingly and willingly sabotaging crucial bearings all across manufacturing lines--hence deflating the value of american products and the american dollar in order to leverage more equal trading value in their country.
whew!!
glad i got that out!

My '81 is still on its original..... 56K miles
My 454 in my truck is at 180K miles
My 2.8 in my S-10 is at 160K miles
Those are just my high milage GM ones, I have others. I've had a small block pump go over 100K miles. I've NEVER had one go out in less than 50K miles.
Are you running 50% anit-freeze? water pump lubricant if not?
Check all your pulley alignment, something is way off here.

It's the grease that makes the difference. There was a thread about this on the NCRS board. The original stuff uses a special(read expensive) grease. EL Cheapo's do not. Thats why they are so cheap... DUH!

I just put in a new AC Delco. I refused to use one of the cheapes from the discount auto part stores.
I got lucky and got mine new for $54, though. :D

My original water pump bearing seized at 6000 rpm.(@50K miles). The shaft instantly sheared off. At light speed, the fan travelled forward making a hole
in the radiator the size of your head.
I tried several rebuilt pumps after that. Seems the RPMs are the killer.
A few trips past 6K seemed to be the death of the bearings.
About ten years ago, I installed a Stewart aluminum pump.
No more problems !!!!!!!!!!
In all fairness to GM, my vette came with the "old" style pump. Small shaft
and small bearings. I believe in '71 they switched to the large shaft/bearing.
Less problems.

Shutdown1: ya caught me, Bro ;) So tired of shovelin' snow in "Da 'burgh", my thoughts of warmer climes changed the resonance in my voice, effecting the cheesy accent :yesnod:
