Federal Mogul - Sealed Power brand replacement pump for BB, STANDARD volume
came with two springs and a note saying if i want higher pressure, use the blue spring for the relief valve.
has anyone tried both? wondering what sort of pressure difference it will make?

I've used the stock pumps with the High Pressure spring many times. I liked it better.
Of course depending on your engines clearances it can all change, but typically I had 40-45 at idle hot and 65-70 at cruise and at high rpm (6000-7000).

I would give Melling a call - they are the original manufacturer of ALL oil pumps and can help you out. Sorry, have not got their adress but you should find them on the net.

thanks, i think i will go ahead with the optional spring. i am replacing the pump because i had low pressure to begin with. hoping it was not loose bearings, but excessive cover to gears clearance (.006-.007) and/or weak relief spring. just wanted to make sure this new spring won't cause any complications.

was the pickup welded? that may have ruined the spring and be the cause of the low pressure.

When I had my engine rebuilt my rebuilder wanted to use a Mellings HV-55 Hi Volume pump.
Having had one before I hated having the oil pressure gauge being pegged most of the time except at idle.
My rebuilder didn't want to put my used oil pump back so we compromised and used a standard spring on the Mellings.
