Build your own bead blasting cabinet?
I finally got a Big Air compressor. I was looking at the Eastwood catalogue at the bead blasting cabinets, at $600 for the small one it seems like I need to look at other options. I am thinking about building my own out of wood and plexiglass. I do have some questions.
1. Where can I purchase the long gloves which attach to the box.
2. Where should the vacume hook up, top, side, or bottom.
3. Any advice would be great.
Thanks-Travis

Search for some old postings on this subject. Since your in CA check if you have a Harbor Freight Tools store in your area I believe they have some inexpensive ones. I'm think they might have a web site.

I purchased mine from Harbor freight for $ 199.00 regularly $ 299.00. It seems to be the price most of the time. It works good but it definitely needs some type of vacuum attached to the back side to help keep the pressure down inside and the beads from working there way out of the seams. It was a great help on my rear end and trans conversion. It does come with gloves and sprayer. All it needed was beads, air and vacuum.
Good Luck!

I built one out of a HEAVY duty 55 gallon plastic drum for $100 including gloves, sand blasting kit from Sears, sand, and tempered glass. Photos are in the archives or you can e-mail me off line and I will send them to you.

Where can a guy get the gloves? I have looked around a little and haven't been able to find them anywhere. Grainger or MSC possibly?

I bought mine at TiP Tools and am very pleased with it; it's the Top Loading model. I shopped around and was close to bldg one and decided I would have close to the $ investment and huge amount of time if I peace-mealed it together than buy the whole unit.
I spent ~$375...that was at my front door...light kit included, all accessories, and 25lb of glass bead. I thought it was a good buy.
PS...I am doing a body off resto and have yet to find a piece that will not fit in it. :seeya

The gloves are on page 58 of Eastwoods winter catalog.$24.99.
I built this cabinet with 16 guage steel and a mig welder.

Geez, 72Vette! You homemade welded cabinet next to my homemade barrel cabinet is like comparing my Yugo to your Corvette! Nice work! Wanna trade?
For those that look at the POS viewing glass on top, that is being replaced with a wooden frame that will hold tempered cabinet glass.
