Trivia for the Day. Eleven-leaf Rear Spring on a 1977?
The local Corvette Club had a go-kart evening last night. What can you do with snow and -10F? The track is indoors....Damn near killed me when some young'un ran up my back when I was only going 32mph. In any case, a fellow member was discussing his winter projects and mentioned that he was putting in an 11-leaf, rear 330 spring on his 1977. I has never heard of that and checked my references afterward-after aspirin and a few beers for whiplash-and my recollection seems correct. There are 7- and 9-leaf springs but no 11. Have I missed something besides the neck pain this morning? He did say that it was "stiff." Yes, I would think so.

You are correct as far as I know GM only offered the 7 & 9 leaf springs. Actually if there had been an 11 leaf spring it would actually be looser than the 9 leaf spring. The 7 leaf spring was available with the optional Gymkhana suspension and is much stiffer than the standard 9 leaf spring.

Thanks Ganey and Bence. I would not have given the matter a second thought except one of the veteran Club members said he had one for sale. And he knows his Corvettes. In any case, I have the 7-leaf in my 1979 and it does not move very much on corners: I have Delco Reactek shocks and there is little movement in the suspension at all. Corners very nicely. Go-karts are worse, they just slide into rubber tires.... ;) .
