Default What is this thing called.

My 72 BB Roadster has something my 68 didn't have and one is broken. There is a conical shaped wedge that holds the door in alighment and the female recepticle on the driver's door jam is broken. I haven't seen these in the various vette magazines. What is this called and where can I get one.

This is a door alignment wedge or cone. You can buy both pieces from Zip but they are expensive. I have to buy both cones (male ends). They are used on convertibles to add to body rigidity since they lack the T-top structure. This is the reason that when removing the body, you MUST reinforce the door opening where you don't have to on a coupe. If you try to close the door on a 'vert while the body has some twist (parked on an extremely uneven surface), these cones help pull the door into alignment rather than doing damage.

Hope this answers your question.

I figured these added more rigidity, but could not find them in my catalogs. I will check with Zip.

Thanks

Not cool at that price. Do any forum members have the receiving (female) side for sale?

Forest .... My 1973 vette has the same item you described. It is called a Convertible Door Guide Receiver Assembly. GM no longer carries them, but ZIP and Corvette Central carry them. I just bought a set for my car. Be prepared to spend $150 to $160 for a set. The problem with these things is that the receiver is made of brass which is a softer metal. Over time they get pretty beat up. Worth the expense because if you don't replace them and you catch an article of clothing on the edges, especially if it is your wifes favourite article of clothing, you will be replacing the clothing as well as the parts. You will find the original part in the 1973 Corvette Assembly Manual on page 191/192.
