Default Took cruise control modual apart....doh!

Well since I'm rebuilding my front end from my Sept wreck...might as well detail the engine compartment while the bonnet it off. I took the cruise control modual apart (1st to see how it works, nasty childhood habit) it wasn't working quite right. I cleaned the contacts and now the solenoid works correctly....is there anything else that goes bad on these things....anything I should be looking for or doing...any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Are you having problems with your CC?

I'm afraid I don't know much about the inside of the transducer; I opened mine up and quickly closed it after seeing the insides.

The CC servo (I think that's what it is called) has a metal ball chain under the protective rubber boot. The boot on mine was torn and the chain had rusted to the point that it broke.

Other than that, there's the vacuum lines that run to the transducer & servo that could be cracked or broken, or the linkage to the throttle could be binding.

Hope this helps.

I recommend cleaning the clutch and spring. If it gets dirty the spring might slip on the clutch.

For those interested in the transducer internals and control theory I have some stuff in the tech section at my page.

I'm still trying to find the reason for my CC's erratic behavior....

Thanks Rods77.

I made that page when I was trying to fix my CC.
Unfortunately, the new insight in the CC didn't help me fixing my problem: It hunts wildly, making it useless.
I've seen several people describing this symptom, and that it is solved by replacing the transducer.
But it's a simple device and I want to fix it myself....
