I'd treat it like a boat. Follow boat winterizing instructions. Full gas tank, fuel stabilizer, run it until you think the stabilizer has made to the carb. Forgging spray in the carb until it stalls. Even though it is a pain to clean off, I would spray the engine down with storage spray. I'd also deflate the tires and store it on jack stands but not with the suspension hanging down.

Good luck,

Don't count on access to internet during basic. Maybe in AIT.

Good Luck! Do what the Drill SGT tells you and don't be a "smartars"
while your there.

I kinda like to remove the spark plugs, dump an ounce of oil into each plug hole, put plugs back in :yesnod: anybody agree?

ahh ED you can only be interim cheif bubba...

as macarthur said "i shall return......" ......in august or sooner depending on the internet ****'s in AIT and basic... :jester

thanks for the battery reminder!! i completely forgot about that...

so whats the story on the gas tank?? just put stabilizer in it or run it empty??

i thought since i would run it empty then perhaps stuff in the carb might be better off?

I guess the gas tank is a toss up. Boat manufactures recommend filling to avoid giving moisture anywhere to go. I drain my lawnmower and then pour a little oil in there and turn it over a few times. I think it is the amount of gas that makes the choice easier. I have 100 gallons of gas in the boat and it would take a long time to run dry so I follow the "fill and preserve" method on that.

I think both methods will work.

ohhh ok i get it now..

thanks!!

yah i have been careful to not fill it up this week...

was contemplating rebuilding the brakes which i desparately need to do...but when it sits for 6 months itll probably suck...

they only give you like 10 days to report to your duty station... so i guess ill have to rebuild em when i get outta AIT...

gonna be driving the vette all the way to colorado!!!

thats about ~2k miles or soo...

I'd look in the auto section of your newspaper, but when I was in the Navy and was stationed at our homeport in Quonset Point, RI there was a company near the base who specialized in storing cars for the sailors who were rotating out over seas. If there is a base near you I'd contact the base to see if they can give you some information? :

One other simple thing that I alway do to my Vette is to use plastic sandwich bags and tape them over the exhaust pipes and the carburator. With a V8 engine you always have at least one cylinder where the exhaust and intake valve are both open. Bagging the intake and exhaust prevents air from exchanging down into that one cylinder, basically drying it out, and corrosion setting in. I also store my cars with a full tank of stabilized gas.

Good luck.
