Things I don't want to do again!!!
Just got done putting a new receive/dryer and A/C hose in. Working thru that lower access panel is for the birds. I'm still trying to get the back of my hand to stop bleeding :cuss. After a good flush and evacuation with a new VOV valve and some R-134 I should be enjoying some cool air this summer.
I'm sure some of you have other repairs you never want to do again.

The lower radiator hose. I don't know about other year Vettes but on my 73 it is hard. I would rather change the clutch.

Putting my oil filter on to tight, trying to remove it, and end up sitting there with the filter sitting in your hand but with no flange.
Two screwdrivers, 30 busted knuckles, and 15 scars on the hand later I finally got the flange out. Ended up replacing the oil filter adapter too since I hashed the old one.

I just changed out my water pump and upper and lower radiator hoses his past weekend. If it wasn't for that lower radiator house the job wouldn't have been much more than a couple of hours...if that.
That thing was basically welded on...top and bottom. :mad

I've been pretty lucky so far. Most of the complaints on here mostly pertain to installing a new heater core (on an AC car) and removing rusted on trailing arms. Luckly I haven't had to do either yet.
Personally I hate the fan shroud....darn near impossible to pull the shroud without removing the hood and loosening the radaitor support. The lower radiator hose isn't much fun either. Back whenever I had AC in my car, I dreaded working on the engine. I constantly found myself unbolting the AC compressor....what a PITA. Now that I removed the AC working in the engine compartment is much easier.

Hey Scooter70
When you get in there if you think it needs replaced do it. I did it the hard way and only replaced a few things and when I went to adjust my window it was moving back and forth on me because I tried to use the old roller. If your gear on your regulator is bad you need to look at the one in the motor too cause it's most likely going to be bad or worn also. Mine is an 81 so I'm sure were different but anything I can help out on just ask. I check here pretty regular. almost too much or you can just e-mail me.

Stripped trans mount bolt. :mad :mad :mad
Radiator shroud removal and install. What they heck was GM thinking, you have to remove half of the front end to get it out!
Front coil springs! It wasn't hard I just was worried that they were going to fly out a kill me.
Rear upper shock mounts! They were a little rusty and it's a tight area that required :smash: !
Removing a/c / heater box with headers. Not an easy task. In fact anything with headers is not an easy task.
Cleaning 20 years of grease and dirt off the underside and engine compartment. A lot of messy work but worth it in the end. :yesnod:

You know, being an old ornery hotrodder, I ONLY fight that stock poopie once...and after that, it's a breeze...
use RTV to grease ALL hoses on assembly...
cut the fan shrowd into lower and upper half, comes out super easy then..
that hard to see lower reverse direction firewall bolt, put it in like the others....simple then to do a heater core....
if something is in the way, move it....cut it, we only doing this frustrating poopie once afterall....
I don't know of any shortcut for the original a/c install, but I just may move that POA valve to a better location while I have the engine out this time...
heat with propane, and bend the evap output line??? yup....
I love doing the things that any revamp engineer would do, if given the chance and freedom.....not satisfying the govt. and other BS providers....
