location of speakers ?
Hi
I'm in process of installing a original stereo 68 radio into my 68 convertible.
Where are the loudspeakers located, behind the kickpanels ?
What's their power data, in watts and what's their resistance, 4 or 8 Ohms ?
My car presently has aftermarked speakers installed behind the seats and the original speakers are missing. I will only install aftermarket speakers again, but like to have them in the original location for the stereo option.
Thanks for all help.

Yes, they're behind the kickpanels in 68 and 69. I think they moved to under the dash in 70. Can't help with the wattage/ohms etc. I can tell you that they're long and skinny....about 4 inches wide and 10 inches long. Hope this helps some. Chuck

Hi
I guess, I can't go wrong with 8 Ohm speakers, even if the old ones possibly only had 4 Ohms.
May be I can locate some original speakers.
I'm reinstalling this original radio and try to get it functional, but am absolutely sure that I can't hear a dam thing with this big block brute exhausting through
the side Hookers. :D
My better half things I'm crazy, am I ?

Really cool sidepipe covers. Where did you get those? I want em.
I think the speakers in my 69 are behind where the tiny holes are drilled in the kick panels. :flag

In 1970 they moved to the dash facing upwards, before that they were in the kick panels. There were still holes in the side kick panels in the foot wells - but no speakers there. The 1970 speakers are 10 Ohm units. ~Juliet

Hi
The side pipe covers where installed when I got the car.
The previous owner burned his legs and put the covers on.
This are chromed sheet metal pieces with slotted holes and I saw them in a
automotive wholesale catalog, different length available.
It is mounted to welded on studs to the pipes.
I also like the look very much as it doesn't look as naket as the raw HOOKER tube does.
To all others, thanks for the help on the speakers.
If I can't locate any original speakers, I will try to get some aftermarked 8 Ohm speakers with around 10 Watts draw.
The previous owner installed a aftermarked radio and cut the dash opening of the radio up. I had a job to rebuild this edges with the lips with fiberglass to make it look original again. Came out pretty good and not visible anymore after painting.
