Last year it was 3rd gear. Replaced it and syncros. Then the rear blew. Now this year it is 4th gear. Last time I was at the track I had problems getting it into 4th. Took a short drive today and it ground every once in a while into 4th. Still goes in OK but it is not smooth. I hate to keep dumping money into this trans but it beats the 2K or so for a 5 or 6 speed but I'm tempted. Looks like it comes out this winter, Maybe while its out a blowshield will go in to protect me. Just venting. The work never stops on these cars.

Man Gordon, you should open a Vette repair shop! You've broken EVERYTHING ;)

I think G-force may still have a few Richmond road race 5-speeds for sale with new long shifters for $1450 if you're interested. I priced a few other transmissions, and the Tremec with shifter, etc. was around $2500 plus a custom driveshaft, and the Richy 6-speed is over $3200 with the mounting bracket and yoke.

Man Gordon....I feel for ya. Which Muncie transmission do you have? You should be almost to the point where you can rebuild the tranny with your eyes closed ;).

By the way, I never knew you drove a standard until now.

Joe, what ratio gears does the Richmond have. I would like an overdrive since I just installed a new rear but I think the richmond is 1.1 5th gear. I like the T56 install on the other post. That would be a nice box to go with.

Yep, 1.1 fifth. You need a 3.08 or similar to go with it. The ratios are tighter on the Richmond. How durable is the T56? Does it fit? I'll have to check out the post you mentioned.

The T56 is used in the new Vettes and Vipers so I guess it should live up to my motor. I figured 3.08 gears would go good with that trans. Take it easy on my little 350 LT1 in your other post. :lol: :lol:

Aw, come on Gordon. Your LT1 is a rocket! (as your drivetrain will attest to ;)) Besides, can you really call a 350 with AFR heads an LT1? It's still the only C3 that I've ever seen break the tires loose on the shift to fourth!

It's just that the guy already has a big block in his garage...

Just checked out the T56 thread. It looks really nice for the price! Would you hack out your manual crossmember?

That is my only problem. I have to cut the trans member out. Are you going to cut yours out. I just might do it if this Muncie is in bad shape. It is going to cost me as much to keep replacing parts in this box. I hate to cut it out but I might have to.

No cutting here. You can get the Richmond in without modifying the crossmenber at all, you just have to modify the transmission mount bracket. I picked up a used bracket for $25 to modify. Richmond gives you diagrams detailing the mod.

I'm going to pull the engine and install the trans and engine as a unit. Some people have installed the trans from the bottom, but you have to remove the tailhousing to get it in.

Hey gordon, at least you don't have to press gears off of the main shaft for 4th, it's a pull and replace operation, as you know. A gasket/seal kit and a new 4th/input and a syncro and you're set.

You can get a new input shaft/4th gear for 145 bucks from the link above. I know it says 5speeds, but it's right.

Hey Steve, Thanks for the info but I have a 26 spline input shaft. Those are all 10 spline input shafts. I will give them a call once I have it apart and see what I need.

Hey Joe if you told me about this before I spent 600 on a 3.70 rear I might be tempted. I would have to change out the rear gears again for the Richmond trans. Where does the shifter come out on the Richmond and did it include the shifter.

Gordon, the shifter comes out in the stock location, no problem. G-force is the manufacturer of Long Engineering shifters, and they include a brand new one in the $1450 price (The shifter alone sells for $430 at Summit). I'll send you some pictures and the installation instructions when I get home tonight. It's a really high quality shifter with heim joints instead of the muncie/hurst bent rods and pins. Joe, i don't suppose you have the liberty to select gear ratios. The transmission is probably already built . What ratios did yours come with. It looks like a pretty heavy duty unit.

I've been watching this conversation tho. You know I've been looking at the ROD 6. And I really want one, but I'm trying to decide if I'm going to buy a C4 or C5 to keep the 69 company.
