Nice pics :) How much space between the carb throat and the KN extreme?

Is the base of your air cleaner a K&N? I'm getting ready to put the same intake on my SB and need to make sure I get an air cleaner with enough drop.
The car looks great.

Re: PICs: New 383 and how I got the RPM Air gap to fit under SB hood (AlwaysWave)
AlwaysWave - about 1 1/4 "
QuickVet - measured on chassis Dyno
theBruce and Rainman69 - I don't know what its from as it was in the car already. This is a 350/350 so I assumed it was stock from that but am not sure. Mechanic said it is definitly corvette but he didn't know from what.
L-88 hmmm could be. I can't find any numbers on it. Anyone know where to look?

That is a 2 inch drop base from a 68-72 lt1. I have one on my 74 with a 4 inch k&n with the extreme top on top of my Team G 7530 single plane with holley with almost an inch to spare. Clink 69, your extreme top must be close to the top of your carb with only a 3 inch wide filter. Mine would hit on the choke tower until I went with the 4 inch. Ooops, just reread the post and noticed you have no choke tower hence the clearance you mentioned.

This is the kind of information that people need to know, and when someone finds out they share it like 74Vettman did.
Vettman, one thing, you say that it is a 2" drop, but in the pics here it looks like alot more than this, if you would, or could verify this, it would clear things up, as I would order one. I have already gone thru all my vet parts books, the best price is, Imagine this................Corvette Central for $81.20, base only part #152088. Also at Zip for $89.00 part # AC-59 also base only. The Ecklers for a wopping $114.99 part # 31632, and this part number needs to be checked by Ecklers, because the discription is not quite the same as the above 2.
Once again, this could save alot of guys ahell of alot of work, not replacing hoods and going with the intake that they want instead of the one that is slightly shorter, like in my case.
THANKS

I have seen the bases on ebay for about $40. But I understand the base will only fit a Holley carb.

Mike69 - No not yet, Its not broken in yet. Only have about 400 miles on it. Its scary fast especially in traffic. That Dual Friction clutch really grabs.
trw - Can't be, I used the same drop base with my Rodchester Qjet, fits both. Not sure about others. :flag

That is a neat installation......did you use the standard sump?.....I have a very similar build except for H 4340 rods and Brodix heads.....will be fascinated to see what you get on a dyno...john :chevy

That is the same intake and carb I have to put on my 72,and I am looking for a hood to fit it. Could you do me a favor? Could you cut a straight-edge to fit between the fenders resting on the lip that is on the fender, going right over the middle of the air filter lid and measure the clearance for me? I would be ever so grateful! Also, what fitting did you use at the back of the manifold under the carb to hook up your vacuum hoses? I did a quick check and it looked like my stock fitting was too tall.

7t2vette - Can't get to that until next week. Have to go out of town... Remind me. But remember my hood is stock SB hood and original. So any hood should fit OK with this setup. :flag

Looking good man! How does she run :)? I do have a question for you though. I noticed you are running 275/60/15s on the back...how well do they fit? I'm going to be running 275/60/15 BF Goodrich radial TAs and was kind of wondering if they rub at all? I bet the "seat of the pants" feel of your car is unbelievable.

Re: PICs: New 383 and how I got the RPM Air gap to fit under SB hood (bence13_33)
Hey Bence,
Well they definetly wouldn't have fit until I moved the Ebrake brackets. Now with these 275/60/15s there is another inch to spare. For all those that care I wouln't recommend getting this size tire as they are way to tall (28") and adversly effect the rear end ratio. Wish I had gone with the 50s.
Runs good but is kind of a monster to drive with the dual friction clutch. stalls easy. If you want smooth shifting , this is not the clutch for you. I would guess I'm in the high 12s already from the feel. :flag

Re: PICs: New 383 and how I got the RPM Air gap to fit under SB hood (Clink69)
I was asking about the sump you used as i was advised that the original corvette sump was marginal with the 383.....i have a custom with much larger capacity, more windage protection and one way traps to ensure proper oiling....given that i intend to do some serious autocrossing i was very concerned about oil surge......i also have a separate oil cooler and remote filter....as to your dyno numbers,i missed seeing them...sorry for the dumb question......the K&N drop base fits fine with the extreme filter....i too have no choke so there is no interference problem......john :chevy
