Check clublexus.com out, they claim they can blow away a Calloway with an I6.
Check this out these guys at the clublexus.com think that their SC300 with a turbo can blow away a Calloway, Viper etc. I'm thinking of buying a Lexus as a winter car, so I'm asking questions about their performance and they truly believe that they are the fastest cars out their, claiming 600+ hp. The SC300 is a inline six with225hp and the SC400 is a V8 with 250hp. Now they claim that an inline six with a turbo unit can blow away anything on the road. You guys should check this out and help me give them some caca.

The Toyota I-6 has great potential, they can be made to produce 800 HP if you throw enough money at them even with a mostly stock bottom end. Go to the following link. Its a series of videos of a Lexus 300 with twin turbos that they claim produces around 700 HP. This type of Lexus is more the exception that the rule and on average most Corvettes will smoke most Toyota's but it is neat what this guy did to this car. The one video has a rolling start street race with two Modified RX-7s, a Viper and this SC300TT. The Lexus starts at least 5 car lenghts behind but believe it or not, not only runs down the RX7's but also the Viper. Neat Video! http://www.toyturbo.com/main/media/sc300/

Who cares?
A lot of people can make just about anything really fast. I've seen an old VW bug run 11's in the 1/4 mi with a normally asperated 4 banger.

I wouldn't just dismiss them as crazy. They are talking about the same I6 in my car. I run high 11s at over 120 mph with crappy 60 ft times in it (3750 lbs w/ driver). Mine is actually mild, stock engine and stock turbos, roughly at 480-500Hp. Upgrading the turbos can easily get you over 600 hp. I have seen some cars dyno over 1000 Hp. Here is a video from a couple weekends ago of a stock engine Supra w/ aftermarket turbo running 9s @ 150+mph if you are interested. Haven't seen a Lexus go this fast but I guess it could be done.

BTW, I still like big block Chevys better.
:D
edit: Can't seem to get the video to work. This link tells about that guys car so you don't think I am lying.

Some exerpts from the thread on the Lexus Board. Comments in parens are mine:
"The inline 6 is naturally balanced and can handle a lot of power." (As opposed to an "unnaturally balanced" V8, right?)
"SC300 isn't really better till you drop a turbo into it."("Drop" a turbo in it, huh? Sounds like a nice little Sunday afternoon project.)
"For example, why is V12 better than V8 or V10? Well, V12 is besically two I6 engines..." (Allllllllll righty, then.)
"V-type engines can be made to be balanced well; but inline motors have it naturally..." (Oh, I see now. Thanks, for the insight, Skippy. I'm going to go "drop in" a turbo now.)
"Well, in V- motors, when pistons are fired, there are two pistons fired at the same time and on opposite sides of the block. So the timing would have to be perfect or near-perfect to properly maintain a V- motor in its running condition." (Really? Two cylinders firing at the same time? I'd better go out and look at my distributor.)
OK, there are some reasonably intelligent responses over there but when I read things like this I start to wonder about the quality of the water in the gene pool.

Re: Check clublexus.com out, they claim they can blow away a Calloway with an I6. (Simon Alexander)
He's trying to describe a waste-spark system, but he doesn't understand how it works. The spark plugs in opposing cylinders in the firing order are fired at the same time. One is approaching TDC intake and contains a compressed mixture to fire, but the other one is at TDC exhaust and so doesn't fire.
By "naturally balanced" he probably means that every crank throw has an opposing one 180 degrees to it so the crank doesn't need large counterweights. Altough this characteristic is shared by any inline or opposing cylinder arrangement.

Just remember, there is that guy with a 10 second mid 80's 4 clyinder front wheel drive chrysler minivan!
He has taken the worst possible combination of parts and made it scream!
Anything can be MADE to go fast!
Big deal

These guys are claiming 600 to 1000hp like it was nothing. They blow away vettes and vipers every day. But they fail to understand that they are still driving Toyotas. ten years from now I can sell my vette for more that I paid for it . Ten years from now all they will have left is a fast motor because the body and frame will be rotted away and their value only gose down as the years go by. Buy American, Love America, Keep America strong.
No matter how fast, a rice burner will always be a rice burner.
