10 is a little low, but your XE274 does have pretty fair lift and duration, that is sure to drop your idle vacuum somewhat. I think 18-20 is considered normal, but normal is what you get with a really dinky cam in a family sedan.
You might check and make sure that all your vacuum lines are in good shape, you might even want to plug everything except the manifold vacuum port you are checking vacuum through. If you vacuum goes up considerably then you probably have a leak somewhere.

Re: *Normal* vacuum at idle?? (Smokehouse69)
I'm fairly certain i have a few leaks. . . but I just wanted to make sure someone didnt wonder how my car is idling at all. . . I do have some idling issues that im trying to work out and figured id start with the vacuum. I'm going to get a timing light next and then maybe an o2 sensor. From the smell of things (rich) I'm not going to pass my emission check come next inspection time (march).

Re: *Normal* vacuum at idle?? (daily_driver)
Har Har  I think my timing is sufficiently screwed up currently that the throttle is open way too much for idle. If that is the case that would also explain this really lame run-on problem im experiencing that's just down right embarassing sometimes. Of course it could just be my carb sucking. I have yet to fix the secondaries getting stuck open problem I first noticed a few months ago. Im just good at getting them un stuck by tapping on the pedal a bit now :D Hopefully tomorrow's compression check won't tell me that I need a rebuild or anything like that. Maybe when I switch over to fuel injection that will solve all of my problems. Anyone know about Accel DFI systems?

I've got 15" at 750 RPM with my XR274 cam (which is the solid roller version of the XE274). Also, mine is in a 383, so the extra cubes may help as well.

Oh, and my power accessories (headlights, wipers, brakes) work great.

Re: *Normal* vacuum at idle?? (pats406nitrovette)
.....Pat gives us time and temperature in Atlantic City! Cool. Next he's going to tell us who is going to win the Superbowl!
My vacum at idle (after warm up) is 18-20. I bumped it up to 30 once, but it didn't stop the T-tops from squeaking! Regards all
