Ever bump your car's nose into the garage wall?
I have
Somehow either three or four times over the past 7 years, I've misjudged the distance from the nose to the workbench :mad . Well, not anymore... http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corvette/stopsign1.jpg OK, I know it verifies my dork-hood, but I've been using it for a week and it seems to really work. I just have to make sure that I don't get fixated on it and run over the cat or something

Re: Ever bump your car's nose into the garage wall? (The Dude)
THat's crazy you started this topic. I ran my FU**ING nose into a wall backing out this summer. Scratched the decals off the side, and a new set of decals alone is 300-400 bucks. Not to mention the paint and the labor.
Anyway, I hung a corvette key chain from a string just like you, which helps.
Just thought that was funny you did the same. :smash:

Yep, I did it once. Of course the nose of my bumper is just tall enough to hit the concrete at the base of my garage walls too! Suprisingly, it didn't scratch or bend it.

I haven't hit the garage wall, but that I have done is pretty stupid..
I parked my 94 toyota 4x4 xtracab pickup in the driveway, I thought it was in 1st. I hopped out an started to get stuff from behind the drivers seat and she started rolling... The driveway only has a slight incline, boy with all the strenghth I had pulling on the steering wheel/windshied post I could not stop the 2-3 feet before hitting the 78's nose... it was rollin oh soo slow...
I heard a loud cracking noise, I thought it was going to be a mess..
I then backed up and took a look, I couldn't really see any damage, maybe a couple scrapes etc, but my nose isn't that nice anyway..
The front plate on my truck was bent (I think that was the noise I heard!) :blueangel:
I got real lucky!

Luckily I haven't hit anything yet. My nose is in bad shape and I think one hit will crack it into a hundred pieces. I plan to get a new one this summer.

I "tap" my workbench which is against the back garage wall when I park the Vette. This happens about once a month in the summer. The chrome bumper doesn't seem to notice thought! My wife likes to yell at me though. I sure is hard to judge that long front end.

I hate to admit it, and I'll deny it at a later date. But right after I got my vette I was following a guy towing a small trailer REAL low flatbed kind. Well I pulled a brain fart as we were going thru a backed up 4 way stop and bumped him. He got out and looked as I was shaking my head still sitting in the vette. Never looking at his trailer, just at my nose he gave me a thumbs up and waved as he got back in his car. Just got a little dusty mark:D

LOL For years my dad has either had a wiffle ball or tennis ball hanging from the ceiling for my step-mom. Granted, he first hung it up for him with the vette but he never hit the wall, just put it up there so he wouldn't have to worry about it. Of course, it didn't help my step-mom with the 79, her foot slipped off the clutch and she put a hole in the drywall. Luckily, she hit in between two studs so it didn't damage the car. I don't think she has driven a stick since. Every vette he has owned since the 79 has been an auto so that she can drive it too.

Of course! :bb
Before I got the vette, I was cleaning up a bit in the garage. You know sweeping, organizing, patching large holes in the wall. I had just about finished the final sanding of the sheet rock and I was proud that I had done a great job!
About the third time I pulled the vette into the garage. Poommp. I stabbed the wall with the nose of the car and ruined my patch job! :conehead The vette was fine, but I was PO'ed about ruining my patch job. :cuss
Well, a year later, the ruined patch job is still there. But, I did make a set of tire stops right away so I'd know when to stop.
Forget the wall, I'm focusing getting the healthy again.

Nope! Or at least not yet. I have a piece of 2" angle iron and a 6" high wheel chock as front tire stops.

Guilty! Last year before the paint job thank god, I was parking the car in the garage and went to hit the brake and it went to the floor and the brake light came on! I got lucky no scratches, did have to get a new master cylinder.

Its all part of having a Vette. My wife just tonight hit the front of the Corvette backing out of the driveway.

Re: Ever bump your car's nose into the garage wall? (jerryp58)
If I pull in too far I hit a metal workbench. Not good. I've got some shelves on the side of the garage I can use to judge the parking distance.
I'm usually pretty close to right on. Plus or minus 6 inches or so. :D
The worst garage I've ever had to park in was my parents garage. Never with the vette, but growing up my mother had a Pontiac Paressian (not even sure how to spell it). Huge car. And their garage is extra small. The previous owners extended the game room 4" into the garage. You had to pull the Pontiac within 2 inches of the front wall for the garage to close. We set a peg board up leaning against the wall. You pulled in until you saw the peg board bend. Then you were fine. That sucked...

I haven't personally, but I let my aunt drive one and she did. Took a nice bit of paint off the nose. :(
