Were pace car spoilers an option in 79?
Just wondering if the 3 piece front and 1 piece rear spoilers were a dealer option in 79, or a factory add-on accessory that you bought & had to put on yourself.

The Pace car spoilers in 1979 were GM (factory) option D80. Of 53,807 1979s produced, 6,853 had this option. Some might consider that rare.

Steve,
My old '79 came without the spoiler option. I decided to add them when I painted "her". I opted for the fiberglass aftermarket ones because; 1) They were cheaper, and 2) The original Urethane rear spoiler tended to "ripple".
One caution if you go with fiberglass on the front. Be very careful that you do not hit anything. They do not flex like the urethane ones do.
Here is an old (scanned) pic of my '79:

Thanks for the replies. Qikstik - really nice shot of the 79 (and the 72). I have the white/tan scheme also (but not an L-82). Will be adding the spoilers also. Nice to see what the finished product will look like.

yeah it was a factory option. I have them on mine, I think the car looks so much better with them. my front spoiler had a hole in the middle piece, so I tried to go the cheap way and get an aftermarket repro one piece, what a piece of poopie. didnt fit right at all, looked like butt, poor quality. so I just got mine fixed.
