Default Dash Pad, what is the trick to get it out?

I am replacing the dash mounted speakers in my "72". I knew that removing old dried out dash pads is very tricky, so I thought if I could just lift it enough to access the nuts, I could drop the speaker and snake it out. Well, this was not to be. I still managed to crack the pad. :cry However, this did allow me to lift the dash high enough to remove the speaker. :) In hind sight I should have just left the old speakers in and just added speakers to the kick panels. As far as I can tell, there is no way to remove the pad without a fair amout of flexing which WILL be lethal to and old pad.

You have to bend it I little in the middle and it will come out.

I just took mine out yesterday from my '72. I have all the lower dash out. I raised the left edge about an inch, then pushed the right side down as snug as possible, and with a very slight pinch in the corner it came out ... not a big deal. Maybe having the lower dash panels out was the trick.

How did the one from Corvette America compare to your original dash pad?
I need to buy one for my 69 but I'm not sure who to buy from.
Thanks,
Bill

I've removed mine twice, once with lower pad in and once without. The process was the same degree of difficulty both times. It does have to "bow" to come out, and an old dried up pad will probably crack. Sorry yours did, cause a new one is expensive!!

I did my 71 last year and agree you have to bend it in the middle. One trick I used was to warm it up with some heating pads for about an hour. Don't know that it made a difference, but mine did not crack.
