Default Questions regarding 79 corvette resto..need info...

Hello..I am restoring a 79 corvette and need some help..First question.. I
want to remove the rear spoiler for painting..But I know the bolts are going to
snap(Rust)..Are the bolts replaceable(If they snap can they be replaced fairly
easy)..Or will I have to replace the complete spoiler....My other question is
on the door jam by the upper hinge post where the jam comes up and meets the
windshield(above where the paint tag is)..There is a smooth flexible compounds
that feels like seam sealer...but it is so smooth I'm not sure if it is seam
sealer.. The smoothness doesnt seem right...Is it seam sealer...Any help with
these question would be appreciated..Thanks

There are two different types of rear spoilers for 79's. The factory pacecar style spoiler was made out of a type of urethane similar to the bumpers. It has studs that are mounted in the spoiler and is held on with nuts from the underside of the deck. It also has a screw on each side where the spoiler wraps down the quarter panels. I am not sure if one of these studs broke of if you could reglue another stud in its place. The other type of spoiler is fiberglass replacement and mounts the same way (but not in the same holes) but does not have the screws on the outer ends. If you break one of these studs you can unscrew them from the fiberglass and screw in a new one.

The smooth sealer you feel by the hinge post is probably the sealer used to put the windshield in. Some probably ran down the post a little. That stuff dries real smooth.

I don't think its run off from the winshield..It's on the hinge post right above the paint tag..Where it starts to curve up the pillar....It could be paint that is flaking off (the pillar is pitted) But the paint and white primer underneath the paint seems thick and very flexible...Wondering if its just primer and paint..but it very flexible...

I know of the sealer you are talking about, and don't know it for a fact, but always thought it was a seam sealer.
