How exactly do the wires hook up again? I have 4 total connectors, with a pair of 2 and then 2 singles. Let me go get a picture.


Theres the small connector and the other single connector, the dual is curved and you can't see it.


Theres the large single (left) and the dual connector (right) The small single is on the main red connector.

Largest red wire goes to BAT terminal on the back of the alternator (the one with the nut.) Black ground goes to ground (any bolt you can reach.)
The other two wires should be in a keyed connector that only fits one way. The white one is connected to the terminal on the driver's side (left) of the connector, the dark blue one goes to the passenger side (right) with the alternator facing forward.
These colors and layout are what I found on my 69.

The red and brown wires go on the alternator stud. I am not sure about the other wire. I will have to go look at my car tomorrow.

Looking at your pictures and I was mistaken when I gave you the wiring colors on my setup (I was looking at the Camaro schematic)
The 10 gauge red goes to the bat terminal, 12 gauge black goes to ground, 20 gauge brown goes to terminal 1 (left) 10 gauge red goes from terminal 2 (right) back to the bat terminal and then to the center terminal of the horn relay.

Well I can't see your problem clearly due to the spiral wrap over the car wire....but as a 'one wire' alternator, that thick red/orangy looking wire from your 2 prong connector to the alt output is fine....then the other spiral wrap wire looks like I see red underneath....so it also goes to the alt output stud, into the wiring harness and to the 'horn relay' which is also a distribution block on the driver's inner fender.....now somwtimes there is a black wire that also goes to the alt frame, and is a ground....

Ignore the one wire not connected, thats the old alarms ground wire we are not using anymore.

Yes, that looks ok, worst case is that something won't work as that wire you have grounded to alt frame is maybe red inside the spiral wrap and should go to output stud as other red wires......

but as it appears, it's fine.....

You might check and see where that second wire next to the ground goes to.

OK, from the picture I can see that Bubba has been doing some rewiring. The thick red wire does go to the BAT alternator output as you have shown. And, the brown wire looks like it does go to the stator terminal as you have it there. However, the thick orange wire does NOT go to the alternator output. That wire needs to go to a switched power terminal so that it's only connected to power when the ignition switch is in the RUN position.

The Haynes repair manual has excellent wiring diagrams for all years. I suggest spending the $25 or so and get it, then trace the wires to make sure they are all going to the right places.
