Default new gears!!!!!

Just left the Mi. state fairgrounds swap meet. I picked up a rear end pumpkin complete with 3.73 gears for $150. I thought that the Vette only came with 3.70, but the seller stated them as 3.73. Either way, we turned it and the ratio was about 3 and 3/4 turns to 1, so I didn't get taken. It also seemed to turn pretty smoothly. Haven't decided what I'm going to do with the 3.36's. I may keep them for long trips and just swap the two pumpkins when the need arises. They should complement my stroker very well!

Divide the number of teeth in the ring gear by the number of teeth in the pinion gear, and that's your ratio. Sounds like a good buy!

I don't know if this is correct, but I hear alot of 80-82 guys talking about 3.73 gears and pre-79 guys talking about 3.70 gears. Is it possible that you got a 80-82 rear?

I'm with Nunus on this one. I too thought that it was the 80-82 crowd that used 3.73 ratios and the 63-79 guys were left with 3.70's  . If you got the whole rear differential, you should measure and compare the spring mounting pad width.

The 3.70 was the vette gear. 3.73 were a popular Z28 gear on the late 70's camaros, plus aftermarket 3.73 ratios are aval. I have heard a lot of guys quote 3.73's not knowing that 3.70 was the gear. I don't think it will make much difference between the two. Same as comparing 4.11's vs 4.10's, though I'm not sure if the 4.10 was a 12bolt?

I thought 3.70 was what was available for the Vette. This rear came out of a 65. When I clean it up before the install, I'll pull the rear cover and count the teeth.
