3.08 to 3.70 results
Well, it still won't do a smokey burnout, but it sure pulls harder. I have 275/60/15's on the rear, so I guess I'll have to either get skinnier tires or more horsepower. When you nail it, it really digs and chirps, and the 1-2 chirp is now a real SQWAWK! Still have to figure out which speedo gear to use, but I guess I can go off the tach for a while. Whenever I get the ambition to pull the trans and change the front seal, I'll probably change out the torque converter to something that stalls around 2000. Can't wait to get a sunny day and really go get a good test drive in.

I did an opposite swap last year to my '68, but I'm more into 75-90mph "long distance cruisin" :yesnod:
Probably could have swapped "whole rears", but the shipping would've killed us

Re: 3.08 to 3.70 results (pats406nitrovette)
So how much will it help? I think I have some 4.11's on the way. I'm going from 3.36s (wanna buy the chunk?). I'm running 13.1 1/4 mile right now. Will it get me a 12.5?
Thanks,
Jay

Re: 3.08 to 3.70 results (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Teenager, dump the hydraulic cam for a solid lifter with more duration or go full tilt with a solid roller. I'm surprised you haven't floated your valve train at 7,000 RPM...your asking for trouble with hydraulics past 6,500. You'll definetly be able to use more cam with your 4:11's and I'd say your under cammed now for the heads your running. :yesnod:

TeenagerWith74Vette - What do you mean by fall on it's face? If it's the 2-3 gear change being so great that the rpm drop put's you out of your motor power band then 4.11 will help you.
4.11 limit's you to only 125-130 mph depending on tire size with 7000 rpm. In a 1/4 mile car it's almost what you want. On a street car it would suck without OD. My car slowed down in the quarter when I went to 4.11 unless you run good 9 or 10 inch slicks. Street tires just smoke all through first

Re: 3.08 to 3.70 results (Ganey)
Thanks Ganey,
I've been searching your old replies trying to figure out how to go on that. I've got a fresh rebuilt valvetrain with .510 springs, so I'd like to give the XE262 a try. Might take me a couple months to get the energy for another project, but then again it might not :chevy .
Thanks again Bob,
Rear is tight and quiet. Very, very happy!

Did you do the swap or have a shop do it? Just curious what procedures you followed if you did it.

Well, I will try the new gears as soon as I get them. I should be getting them from a fellow forum member soon. I can't wait. I would love to run some mid 12's.

gtr,
I bought the whole carrier assembly. I've never set-up a ring and pinion. If you mean did I swap carriers, yeah. It's not too hard, just time consuming, and a little heavy.

Thanks but yeah I was intrested in if you rebuild it. I'm planning on doing the ears in both of my cars myself, so I was just gathering information from different sources.
Thanks anyway,
Gary
