Re: Refinishing '69 sidepipe covers (geopar)
Are they the original aluminum style? They make reproduction fibreglass ones now, that's why I ask. If you want to prep them for some sort of painting I would get them soda blasted. I did this to some side rocker panels once and they turned out great. The guy that did it said that he would take the paint off as if it had never been there, ie: bring the metal back to look like it did before the paint. The job was a little on the pricey side but it leaves no marks or pits. Like I said before, the process brings it back to what it looked like before paint.

yes they are alum. outside w/fiberglass heat shields inside . The outsides are not dented or scratched , but are "bubbling" and such . Any thoughts on cost to refinish ? Geo

Post this on the Factory Correct Resto forum and ask for 427 3x2. If I remember correctly, he (or someone else there) knows the contact that can restore them to new condition. I think it was definitely around $500 to do a pair when I looked into it.

Librandi's Plating in Harrisburg, PA did my center sections last year. Seems it was about $300.00 for the pair. Check area code 717 for their number. They are technically located in Middletown, PA, but their shop is literally at the end of the runway at Harrisburg airport. Chuck
