3.70's are in!!!!
Well, I got that thing in there finally! It's a heckuva lot easier getting the old one out thanks to gravity. Have to button up all the details tommorrow, and then it's GO TIME! I ended up having to remove the shock mounts in order to release the strut rods and get the mount plate out of the way so the rear would drop out without having to fully remove the exhaust. Wasn't as scary as I've heard it can be, but I'm glad I ordered that removal tool from Zip. With any luck I will post driving results tommorrow!

Going to 3.70's in my 72' made a BIG difference. Keeps the car in the power range through the shifts much better.
I havn't tried the extra 100 hp added slowly in modifications while recovering from my heart problems and I wonder if my heart can handle the extra power. I always got a rush driving my car and that was pre mods (stock ZZ4) and post mods (edelbrock alum. centerbolt heads polished port matched, HOT cam, GM 1.6 rockers, edelbrock pro flo EFI) might be too much to handle.
At least that's one way to die with a BIG SMILE on your face :)

Congratulations! Just want to clear up one small thing, did you say
I don't think I could have slept on that upgrade with it being so close to being done...I would have taken the test drive at 2am :D . One last thing, YOUR VETTE LOOKS AWESOME (still).
Have to button up all the details tommorrow, and then it's GO TIME!

Maurice-I usally would have stayed up and got it done, but I had kind of a stomach ache last night and had to cancel some dinner plans with my wife. I knew she'd give me He!! if I pulled an all-nighter after that.
Bob-I normally wouldn't be this far along, but I did this same thing last spring and had the whole drivetrain out. Kind of knew what I was doing this time, but still had a few occasions throw tools and use bad language. One car garages can be tough.
Andre77-I posted the same question for TH400 a few days ago and someone replied with a calculator that was downloadable. I never could get the thing to download properly, I'll search the topic and see if I can get the person to re-post it.
Thanks all you guys. I'm headed to the garage!!
PS-I'm going from 3.08's, forgot that question.

ORvette,
I know what you mean about the bad language and throwing tools!! Since I have had this house and garage, I can go back in the house and take a break from the frustration and go back out later on and try to reason with the problem. Plus, I have another car to drive since the '74 isn't my daily driver!
How are the 3.70's?? Are you driving the car to Michigan?
Bob

Bob,
Not sure about the road trip. Someone kindly reminded me of the salt they use back east on the roads. Been out west so long I pretty much forgot about it. My car is not a show car or anything, but the thought made me cringe a little. Plus, it's a long way there! I don't know, I'm still thinking about it. If I could compile a list of CF people along the way to check in with and call in the event of emergencies. Maybe a little side trip through Denver to the famous 'Lar's Garage'. The 3.70's are great! I still can't smoke the tires or anything, but the pick-up is incredible. I have 275/60's on the back and a pretty mild engine with a wimpy cam. I'll work on it. It snowed here today, maybe I could come spend a couple weeks with you in San Diego instead!

Hi
Great, I have originally 3.70 in my 68 big block convert with 4 speed manual and driving hiways is not fun.
The HOOKER side exhaust is a killer with 4.000 RPM cruising, which gives about 80 MPH.
Could do with a overdrive gearbox. Project for the future. :yesnod:
But pulling up from stand still through the gears, man :D
Good choise.
