Default Changing from 4spd to auto?

I'm wondering what may be involved in going from a standard to an auto transmission. What kind of things like the trans and a cooler, kickdown linkage, shift linkage..... Am I looking at a big task that I should not try and tackle or is it not too bad ?

I've been going to purchase a TKo tranny, but I'm considering maybe a 700R.

Any thoughts or tips would be great. Thanks

If you do it. I want all your parts less tranny. Going from auto to manual is harder. I just have the stock TH350 3 speed shifter with an extra detent cut in it so I could put it in first. Your going to have to have a removable cross member and Bowtie OD will fix you up. The drive line has to be shortened and balanced. It's not a big deal at all.

I want to go 5-6 speed it's like a free extra 25 hp over a 700R4.

Alwyn I think the auto will be a bit easier on the drivetrain. Also I can't shift as fast as an auto without worrying of ruining my trans so I'll be faster at the drags but also when autocrossing :D . It may not be as fun as the 4spd, but if I can get something like a manual shift kit or something, maybe I'll still be able to determine when "I" want to shift unless I really like the way the 700R shifts  .

George it's something that I'm just kicking around right now. It may also save me some $$$ which I can always find someplace else to spend it ;) . If I do end up going this route, I'll let you know on the other parts. :)

I have all my pieces from my conversion of auto -> manual left over. The pedal assembly, shift assembly, shift console... I really don't see what else you'd need, aside from what it take to physically fit the new tranny in there. I may be convinced to let it go cheap to help out a fellow forum member...
