Default Control Arm Shaft Bolts

Hello all,
I started a frontend rebuild this week on my 81. As I began removing the upper control arms I notices that "BUBBA" had welded the Upper Control Arm Shaft Bolts to the frame so it would be easier to align. I managed to get one set out of the frame and both sets will have to be replaced. I noticed that these bolts have splines above the shank.
Can I replace these bolts with regular shanked grade eight or are these special? :U

Spoke to Chevy, its a standard bold. Splines are for not.

You can still buy those knurled bolts from GM,at least I did last year. I got a front end kit a year or two ago and they just used gr 5 or 8 bolts. I would rather use the knurled one like GM used. I think they are knurled so they won't spin when an aligment is done, the tech can loosen just nut without having hold the other end(under the fender)

Go the GM way!

I think they are grade 8, so they won´t flex or crack.

If they are little more expensive than regular bolts, so what?

Those bolts carry your wheels and suspension! It´s a kind of life insurance for you and the car - good investment!!!

Yes I tend to agree with you both. However, we do have an industrial fastener company here in Paducah. I going to see if they can match them, otherwise I will probably go GM. I really wanted to start putting things back together this weekend.

Thanks for your thoughts.
