Default New Exhaust System - what to choose?

The rebuilt 355 cui with 9,5:1 comp. and approx. 350 ponies is about to go into the engine bay of my 1979. In this connection I am considering to replace the old rusty exhaust system.

I am thinking about headers and hi-flowin' mufflers but I am uncertain exactly what the optimum system would be and of what brand. Please note that the cat.converter has been removed and I am bound by no legal requirement to have a cat.converter.

Suggestions will be received with gratitude!

Dynomax coated headers which flow & fit great. Dynomax mufflers or Flowmaster per your taste.

Thanks Ganey and Intimidator.

I'd like to retain the stock look - so the supercharger and sidepipes will have to wait a while.

What 'bout the exhaust pipes: Should I go with stock, stainless steel or aluminized?

Thanks in advance.

Aluminized is just fine..Go with 2.5 pipes.......And I highly recommend the Flowmaster Delta40 two chamber mufflers...a bit loud...But they will sound Great

"Aluminized" is cost effective.

I am using 2.5" aluminized pipes with Maganflow mufflers. I am very happy with the sound and performance.

Assuming Denmark has the same sort of weather as the UK, I'd say go for Stainless pipes (2.5" dia duals), especially if they salt the roads in the winter. The stainless cost more but will last years longer (my Mums Saab still has the same stainless system that was put on in 1980 & it is driven every day of the year. The aluminised pipes on my Ford needed replacing last month - 2 years after they were fitted :mad ).
I've got Monza mufflers & love the sound :yesnod:

I am actually considering something of the same. I currently have the Monza exhaust (similiar in appearance to the Dynomax but red instead of yellow, and installed on the car when I bought it). It's a little too loud for my wife, and actually for the 45 year old driver of the car......me.
Any suggestions on a muffler which is close to stock, but still has a nice throaty sound?
And......anybody interested in two Monza mufflers??

RMADLEM, FWIW, I just cut off my Flowmasters, which I really liked for the performance motor I was running, and replaced them with some, nobody laugh, Summit Turbo mufflers. These mufflers are not welded, very inexpensive and are a throwback to the old Corvair Turbo mufflers. I needed to get away from chambered mufflers, but wanted the throaty sound with less flappy harmonics. Mine are 3", so they are a little louder than the 2.5" turbo mufflers. They sound good, not too loud, but definately don't sound like the factory stock mufflers that came on my year. I can now listen to my radio at cruising speed. Because muffler sound is a personal preference, I bought these (cheap) to see how they sounded and would have removed them if I did not like the sound. I will keep them on until I put the turbo on next year.

I have Flowmaster 40s on my Vette. They were my favorite mod by far. I love the way they sound all the way through the RPMs. I have some sound files but I can't seem to get them onto my homepage because they are in .mpg format because I got them from a digital camera with video. I'll see if I can work on it. Oh yeah... you also get a little sticker that says Flowmaster... that's really why I bought them. :D

Custom 2.5" dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow mufflers #942541, no cats, H pipe, & Blackjack headers.

Some resonance between 1600-1900 rpm but looks, sounds, and performs great.

GWHITE75 - Thanks for the info. Well, nobody laughed at the Summit Turbos, so I'll check them out!!
Thanks!!
