Control arm bushings poly or rubber?

You will get a lot of opinions on this. I have redone my suspension twice in the last twenty years. This last time I did the front & rear in poly. There is no doubt but that the poly will ride a little rougher, especially on poor roads. The poly sure makes the car handle better though.

Rob, I have done it both ways!! Rubber is the way to go in my opinion :blueangel: Poly is tight and firm but when you have one arm out the window and the other clutching a beer and the wheel----rubber is alot nicer to drive! Thad :yesnod:

I just got new A-arms and whole new everything front and rear. Except for sway bars. And though my car was running lick hammered puppy pooh. I noticed the EXTREME difference in handling. And I still have stock front sway bar and no rear sway bar. Though, the ride was rougher on the poor roads.

Im in the market for a bush kit and will probably go for the poly.
If you prefer your creature comforts though I would go with the rubber.

The rubber was fine in 1979 and it is still good today. No marine grease and the like to compensate for noise. I went with the Muskegon Brake rubber front end kit.

Where does the myth that poly squeaks come from. Maybe they did when they first came out but I have had Poly bushings through the vette for 4 years now, I used the assembly lube that came with the kit and have never had a squeak that came from my suspension.
The ride is harsher with the poly bushings.

I will use Poly when I do my front end...if I wanted a soft ride, I would have bought an Osmobile.

I don't know about past poly kits, but most of the recently manufactured poly bushings are impregnated with graffite to reduce squeeking. Grease them up good before install, and I don't think you'll have a squeeker.
I just installed poly rear spring and stabilizer bushings this past week... but haven't driven it yet. Good Luck on your decision.

Thanks for the info. Just missed a deal on the rubber for $16.00 for upper and lower on Ebay. Oh well. I think I'll hit the rubber ones.

Rob,
the poly to my mind is easier to install and provides a longer satisfactory ride (more performance oriented)
Rubber is for me when I´m with originality......
otherwise I rely on the modern times technique.
Just my .02 ct
