Default Anyone convert to power door locks ???

I have power windows but not locks... I was wondering how hard it would be to convert it over to power locks and add a keyless entry kit to it? Has anyone done this? Could I get some details on it? What parts did you need/use? Thanks for the help !!!

there are quite a few places that offer aftermarket keyless entry kits with solonoids for the door locks. Would you want to put a switch somewhere in your car for the locks, or rely on the keyless entry fob? http://www.autoloc.com/ has some stuff that might help you.

I'd want to put a swich in the door panels most likely, wouldn't want to rely just on the fob... Thanks for the link, i'll check it out.

somebody on here did the conversion, by attaching a power lock motor to the lock arm, i think from memory, the motors were around 20 bucks each from JC whitney... not positive of the specs and stuff... but hope fully the fella will speak up

First, I'm not an expert on this and don't claim to be. You can buy aftermarket GM repo door look switches in the "Help" section of most auto parts store for a lot less than factory. The locks themselves require a power door lock actuator and small lock rod that pushes the lock up and down. Vettes had their own actuator that was not shared with other GM cars. Next you will need to just create the wiring harness from the switch, via relay I presume, to the actuators. Not sure if aftermarket would work or not. I have power locks but missing the actuators. You can buy them new for about $40.00 each from vette catalogs. I'm trying to find them used from a wrecked vette.

Jim

If you're handy with electrical stuff, it's not very difficult. I got an Omega REC11 controller. It is controlled by a remote (included). I then got 2 generic actuators, also made by Omega. A few relays and I have keyless entry. The actuators are inside the doors so nothing is visible. The controller and relays are under the parking brake console. I'm using the PW rubber conduits to get the wires from the body into the doors.

I also wired up the REC11 so it disables the EFI when I press the 'lock' button. The reason I like the REC11 is that it uses "code hopping". This means the transmitted code changes every time so it can't be snatched by a code reader.

All the parts (REC11, 2 actuators, 3 relays and relay sockets) cost just over $100 from http://www.partsexpress.com

Thanks for the info, guess a universal kit won't work for me then...

I found these parts in the Zip catalog, which ones do I need and how many? And is there anything else I need??

DR-425 Lock Actuator, power lock
I-899 Lock ****
DR-315 Lock Mechanism (LH or RH)
DR-498 Lock Shield
ES-347 Power Lock Switch
E-529 Power Lock Switch Pigtail (LH or RH)
ZDR-361 Rod Clip

Thanks for replies and help.

My car did not have power locks. I didn't have any problems with the install. I mounted the actuator to the metal plate that bolts to the door frame (behind the door panel). I then connected the supplied rod to the stock rod that goes from the lock **** to the lock mechanism. It's all behind the panel and not visible.

You should be able to look inside the door with the panel removed and see if the harness is laying in there. I think the harness plug has three wires running to it. I can clearly see my harness for the locks laying at the bottom.

Zwede,

Are you saying that the generic acuators worked well? If so, how much are the actuators? The corvette suppliers want like $20 or $25 each for these little things. If I can use an aftermarket for less, great!

Jim

Zwede,
Did you find a 12V double poll relay to simplify the reverse polarity wiring, or did you end up with 4 relays. Or better yet, does anyone make a dpdt, momentary, center off relay?

Rec. 1 PL switch in the center console. All the pass. needs to do is hang on.

Aftermarket alarms will work the PL.

Gary

Just use a GM relay.
