Default Hurst Shifter

I know that Hurst makes a replacement for my stock shifter. Is it just a bolt on? Will the console have to be modified at all? Does anyone know the part number? If anyone has a picture of what it looks like that would be nice. Does it come with a shifter or is that something else I have to order? As always any help is appreciated.

The Hurst shifter works great. It's a little bit of a job to install but not terrible. The Part # for the shifter is #3917992 I paid $165.95. The installation kit is part # 3738611 for $89.95. I bought both from Summit. You can see a pic of the shifter in my 75 at my web site. I didn't have to change anything in the console to make it fit. It's just a little hard to adjust. I thought it was hard till I tried to install an outside door handle- now that takes the cake.

Paul,

Do you have any problems w/ your Hurst shifter rattling? I have this annoying rattle that is based on RPM's. If I either touch the shifter (very lightly) or take the shifter **** off the rattle goes away.

Be forewarned, I am mechanically challanged but always willing to learn and try.

My stock shifter rattles too. The reverse lockout rattles whenever I get over 3000rpm. I can understand how annoying that is.

I am guessing that it is in the linkage somewhere since there is no reverse lock-out. On the other hand, what do I know... :D I am the one that spent an hour looking for an electrical problem (w/ Assembly manual, multimeter, ...) to find out the negative terminal was loose.

A hurst shifter is attached directly to the transmission, that most of thereason they rattle, also check your bushings on your shift arms, if they are loos, the shifter will rattle more.

As for the installation, I thought it wasn't to bad, to me two hours, including the tear out of the old shifter... but then again, I have ripped out my transmission so many times that I rip it out in about 30 -45 minutes.

PAUL,
The picture in summitracing has a long curved stick but the one on your
website is straight and looks shorter. Did you have to buy that shifter?

You can go to http://www.mrgasket.com then click on the Hurst emblem. Shifters, install kits, etc, all there.

I had mine done by a gerat guy here in Atlanta. If you don't have a way of getting the car up in the air, I would not try it. To get the old one out is a real challenge. We loosened the transmission and all the exhaust (2 1/2 pipes) and it still took about 3 hours to get the old one out .. and another 2 to get the new one in and adjusted. The center console does have to come out.

It is an awesome shifter though ... no rattles but it does shake a bit because it attaches to the tranny where the original attached to the frame.

It's a great upgrade but I am glad I did not try and do it myself.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to attempt to put it in myself. I'm sure its a pain but I have plenty of time it being winter and all.

I installed my Centerforce clutch and Hurst at the same time. All on Jack stands. I guess it all kinds of blends together. I LOVE the Hurst, to me it just gives me that muscle car feel. I mean that aren't our C3's the ultimate muscle cars?
