Default The #'s are in! 09 ZR1 ARH Custom Exhaust and Vette Drs Custom Tune 598RWHP 549RWTQ

Nicky and Jose fabricated an 1 7/8 inch header, custom X pipe and free flowing cats for the car. With some basic tuning with EFI Live (not wanting to push this beast just yet since it only has 200 miles on it) and the 1 7/8 header the car made 598RWHP 549RWTQ! The Dyno sheet shows over 40 RWHP and almost 50 RWTQ over the entire power band! Incredible!!

Here is the dyno sheet:

We also tried an 1/34 header which should a significant loss over the larger header. The larger header is the way to go.

We have left a lot more power on the table with the tune as again I only pulled the car a couple times on the dyno with the new ARH exhaust system and left a very conservative tune in it. Thanks again to Chad for getting me the software. The EFI Live software for the 09 ZR1 worked great. I personally drove the car after I tuned the car and I can say this thing runs great!

We have another customer picking up their new ZR1 next week. He is looking for an even more aggressive package. We are working on a custom pulley system and air box, both should really help this beast reach its full potential. I can tell you now that replacing the pulley is not going to be as easy as it is on a Magnusson but we think it will be possible with some creative designing.

Here are several pictures of the install:

Sweet!!! Can't wait to see the "more aggressive" set up in the future.

Noob question here,
That is the closest yet that I have seen an x-pipe to the headers collector. Some are close (Kooks) some are much further down stream (Dynatech). Is there any advantage/disadvantage in the location of the X-pipe in relation to distance from the headers?

Also did you guys happen to do just a tune before the headers to see how much of a difference there was between stock and tune only, and then tune only and with headers?

There was speculation that it was possible to control the boost (somewhat) with the PCM. Is this true? If so, did you alter the boost on this car?

Those are huge gains if you didn't touch the boost at all.

So I was only off by 3hp for my guess, but I think you short changed yourself on the RWTQ. The way I read the graph you got 557 rwtq after the tune? It looks like the 449 number was the before tune rwhp.

Again, any idea what that little hitch in the curve is around 4800rpm?

About what I would expect from a tune and headers on this car.

I'd like to thank Doug for giving us and the Vette Doctors the opportunity to upgrade his incredible ride. We're very pleased with the overall results as well as being the first header manufacturer with headers for these hot rods. These performance gains are a clear indication of just how effective a quality set of big tube headers and a tune really are. With additional tweaking there's no doubt 600 plus rwhp will be surpassed.

If anyone has questions please feel free to call me 631-608-1986. Thanks.

Nick

You are correct sir. The torque was up 60 ft lbs

Thanks Again to Nick, Carmen, Dave and all the other guys at both shops. I picked the car up last night for dad and its absolutely sick. I can 100 percent say it makes my z06 feel like a complete slug. The sound is absolutely incredible at WOT and when you get on the highway with the valves closed you don't even know its got headers.

With forged internals, shoot for 700 RWHP/TQ with some up of boost .. on the next go.

It would be interesting to see this car on a dynojet. I dont know how much more it will show but it should be big difference since the Dyno Dynamics system is notorius for spitting out lower numbers, which is not a bad thing. Just something everyone should keep in mind. i would not be surprised to see this car make 620rwhp on a Dynojet.

Not too sure about that. Two ZR1s were tested in NC on a Dynojet and they only put down 530 rwhp and 540 rwhp stock.

well that may be but I still think putting these cars on the dyno with such low miles is going to show lower numbers until the engine breaks in and my friends Zo6 was the same way. they told him that before 600 miles dont bother getting in the gas too much. At around 800 miles he noticed the car was stronger and revved out far more easy. I think the ZR1 is the same way. Give them some time to get some miles on them and I bet the power jumps up. i have Faith they should not be losing darn near 100 hp through the drivline of a manual trans.

I agree about the engine break in. Though, the ZR1 might have a little more drivetrain loss than the Z06 since it has beefed up and heavier drivetrain components.

^^ I am sure it may have a little more loss but I have a hard time believing that it maxes out at 540 stock It really should be more in the 560 range which would be around 12% loss. I dont see how that driviline is eating up almost as much as an auto is at 15-18%. If that is the facts then I guess it is better to have that and not worry about busted half shafts and sacrifice a little more power. Well time will tell I guess. See what happens as more Z's make it to the dynos. Also it would be nice to know what elevation these cars are at when on the dynos. No matter they are still great cars with a ton of potential. 600rwhp with just exhaust and tune is awesome. More boost and some other bolt ons and 700+ is within reach for sure. Wish I could afford one. I am waiting to find a used ZO6 for a decent price right now.

Just simply awesome numbers coming out of this powerplant already!
The potential for this motor is huge! What a great time to be a gearhead! You know the old line It was the best of times.... it was the worst of times" I just don't think it could have beeen more fitting then, than today.
