Re: shipping a hood? (sdixon)
I tried to buy a BB hood a few weeks ago from SC (?).
We could not find anyplace that would accept the item because of the size. We tried UPS, FedX, and USPS. Of course it can be shipped by truck but it's expensive. Since then it has come to my attention that Greyhound may accept that size package. Of course, they won't deliver to your house!

I have a L88 hood coming to me from Ecklers this week.
It had to be shipped via truck to a business address.
$115.00 to ship it.
Had to have it and got to pay to play.

I had one shipped from TX to VA. http://cratersandfreighters.com did it.
They built a really nice crate for it. If anyone wants the crate you're welcome to it, it's a little warped from the rain right now, but should still work alright. I was going to chop it up this weekend if noone wants it.
BTW, I Strongly advise against shipping it UPS or in a cardboard box. UPS would destroy this in 3 seconds flat. They have damaged nearly everything I have sent through them.

Re: shipping a hood?
My father has bought a total of about 5 fenders and hoods for a Porsche 911 from ebay. He told the sellers to ship Greyhound. I believe one of them did not package a hood at all; just put a sticker on it. I saw another one which was basically just "wrapped" in cardboard. All of his items came in without any scratches or dents. He really praises their handling.
I, personally, have no experience with them.

I'm wondering the EXACT same thing. Trying to work out a trade for my big block hood for a L88 hood. I have 3 takers, but so far shipping is a problem. I was quoted $130 for truck freight here.
A hood is MUCH too big for UPS. Don't even think about it.
Anyone have any other options? I might try Greyhound tomorrow.

w00t! Greyhound shipping is freaking awesome. I can't even believe how cool this is. I just got on their web site:
http://www.shipgreyhound.com and entered my information for a quote. Shipping from Rochester, MN to San Marcos, TX, 30 lbs (about waht a hood weighs), and a oversize box (limited to 24"x53"x74") is $32.55  !!!! And 1-day transmit time! It's faster than freaking FedEx! I am so happy right now it's almost too good to be true. My hood is comfortably smaller than those dimensions, perfect for extra space for the packing.
Guess that's the way to ship a hood.

Re: shipping a hood? (ddn)
my hood came from New Mexico to Mi. It was shipped truck freight right to my house, but we had to make sure we were there to sign for it. If I remember correctly, it seems that was the only way we could get it shipped The seller had purchased an L-88 hood and shipped my LT1/big-block hood in the box his L88 hood came in. I don't remember what the shipping cost was.
