What performance gains can be expected....

What performance gains can be expected....
in the 1/4 mile by upgrading from 3.08 gears to 3.55 assuming I'm already running 14.2sec. Lets assume traction won't be an issue.
And what can my expected top speed be. Not that I'll be finding out of course

I would think you'd gain 2/10. It all depends though. If a certain gear ratio takes you far beyond your peak power you may actually slow down. That's why some L98 tuned port C4's slow down with 4.09's or whatever because they peak around 4500 or so. Being that you have 3.08 gears already, which is pretty tall, I would almost guarentee you car would be faster.

Your top speed will be somewhere around or just under 120 without overdrive at normal redline...
dunno about your performance gains. I'm already running 3.55 and 14.7...guess I need your engine upgrades. :D

Both of you confirm what I figured...I'm trying to decide between putting money on gears or just buying some descent heads. I'm trying to figure out which would be the better idea.

2/10's is like having an extra 20 horsepower, roughly. Try and figure how much power the new heads will give you and work the cost to performance ratio from there. Say your heads gave you 40 horse at a cost of, what, $1000-$1500? The gear change will cost you the gears, $100 used or so, and the install which is anybody's guess due to overall condition of the diff. Play with so numbers and see what you get. Then post them here. :)
