I do know one thing for sure. I just changed the antifreeze in my Dads truck last summer. This truck is an 88 with 55K miles. This must have been the first time it was ever changed. The overflow line was clogged with antifreeze/sludge mixture that looked like poop when I got it to break loose. I flushed and flushed the radiator, countless times. I didn`t flush the heater core and now I have big problems. (As if not changing antifreeze once in 13 years wasn`t enough.) The new thermostat is already stuck closed and I haven`t even drove the truck except to the garbage dump. When it warms up this boy will get straight with antifreeze.
I wish I asked more questions of my dad.

I've always used "ZEREX", buying it when it's on sale; the "ZEREX" I bought last week has on the label "5 Years/100,000 miles"...it'll go into the "PinkLinc" after it's overhauled :chevy

What ever you use.. Mix it with distilled water. It is the minerals in the water that cause problems, not the anti-freeze.

I just use the old pet poison, ehthlyn glycol....green poopie, cheapest available, and stay away from anything marked EPA approved...it fried engines with corrosion/etc.....
now of course one way or another, so it seems the system is open several times a year, and checked for corrosion and such....main cause I hear is acids from combustion getting in there....so use a bit of baking soda to clear it out....
makes sense to me....

I think its green so you can tell where its leaking from.
The red stuff is terrible stuff.
just had to take our 96 Blazer into the shop cause the heater quit blowing hot air.
They back flushed the system and it was just like mud, they said they do this all the time cause the heater core stops up from the red anitfreeze.
Heater works great now.
