Driving your Vette in snow?
I know most of you will say no way, but when I bought mine I did so with every intention of driving it year round. Now that its snowing here I'm beginning to have second thoughts. Anyone else drive year round?

Re: Driving your Vette in snow? (spiru)
A definite NO from me here in Germany.
I own two Vettes, doing a frame off resto on a 77 right now and after what I discovered on the car without driving it all year I think for me it is better not to drive it year round - otherwise I guess I would go MAD just thinking of the rust possibilities on the frame!!!!! :mad :mad :mad
For this winter I drive my Firebird - not the best winter car, but it works! :jester

All I have is the 2 Vettes. My wife has a Suburban but I never drive it. I have to drive one or the other Vette what ever the weather. But I have to say I have never drove any car that handled as badly in slick conditions as either of my Vettes. They can barely get anywhere....the absolutely worst. I have had to idle all the way home from work before....and I do mean "idle". If I gave it any pedal at all it would try to put me in the ditch.

I drive my two year round. Other than the usual winter weather precautions, the only thing concerning a Corvette-in-Snow which takes some getting used to is Positraction. In the truly bad stuff, you are apt to find the Corvette defroster cannot keep up with the volume of falling snow.

When I had to, I avoided it as much as possible. Its definitely not a bad weather vehicle. Luckily I got a 4x4 now and I'm watching a light snow out my window right this moment.

Re: Driving your Vette in snow? (spiru)
Only in case of emergency! I had to drive in snow in the week before xmas. My daily diesel was on strike, so I had to use the vette for driving to work. It was snowing the whole afternoon, :mad but only in the town where I work. So I came home without beeing salted all over :D

I think everyone these days is so used to ABS and traction control, they have forgotten what it is like to drive a rear wheel drive car with lots of torque. My first car was an old Nova with a 350/4spd/posi combo and it did just fine in the snow as well. Was following a new Camaro SS home today in the slick roads (mixed rain and snow falling) and you could teel the guy was hitting the gas but the car wasn't letting him go. :yesnod:

I drove my C5 to Ohio. First snow, I took it down to the gas station and got 'stuck' on about a 1/4 inch of snow. The snow was packed and I got zero traction. I kept backing up and moving/sliding forward/sideways because there was no traction (just alot of spinning). About the same performance I'd expect of any rear-wheel drive vehicle in similar situation. I'd trust the vette in shallow snow but any accumulation would probably cause clearance problems (ever gone snow-boarding?).

I should drive my '81 in the snow, but I don't. When it's warm, I'll typically ride my Harley in favor of driving any car.

I started mine up and let it run while I stood in the garage and watched it snow. Does that count?
