Default Axle shafts

I've pulled the axle shafts out of my 73 Vette to replace the u-joints. I've read that when putting the axle shafts back in, you should make sure that the side differential flanges are at 90 degrees to each other. This may sound like a dumb question, but why is this necessary?

Thanks,

It is not required to do this. As you turn the car the axle shafts rotate at different speeds so in a matter of one turn the axle shafts would no longer be at 90 degrees. Put them in any way and you will be fine

Thanks a lot for the info. I felt kind of foolish for asking this question. I thought maybe I was overlooking the obvious.
