Default Guilty....I drove the Vette today in Toronto area!

I live just outside Toronto. No snow here at present, but we did have snow just after Christmas and the roads were salted. Anyway, it was dry and clear and even with the salt stains on the road (no "rocks"), I said to heck with it and went for a quick spin!

Car ran just great and it was fun, but I know I probably shouldn't expose the car even to salt residue.

My car is a "driver" so I figure this is ok.....how do the rest of you feel? Did I do something I may regret or should I just enjoy the odd drive when the mood strikes??

The car should be okay provide it didn't get wet underneth. You may want to have a look under there to make sure. If the roads where dry I wouldn't worry about it. Wish I could have taken mine out, but it is snowing quite a bit here in Bradford :nonod:

Doug .... I live just up the street from you in Newcastle. Before we got the snow here Christmas eve I was regretting taking my car off the road October 31. I did sneak a ride in it to take it to the body shop December 6, 2001. Man it was so cool to get behind the wheel and drive it up to Port Perry. I can't wait until it gets back and spring is here. If your car is a driver I wouldn't get too concerned about it, but dry road salt can be a pain. My suggestion is if you like to take it out for the odd spin - Take it in to a detailer in the spring and have a professional desalt it. The problem with road salt(even dust) is that once you get the underneath of the car wet it will cause rust. Hey maybe we can hook up sometime in the spring.

Thanks for all the responses! I agree that it is not a good idea to get the car wet underneath. Today it is wet here and I wouldn't even consider taking the car out but only on clear very dry days. Sweet73...thanks for the tip on desalting, sounds like a good idea. I've heard the shop in Port Perry (the Vette specialist, but I forget the name) is high quality. Would be interested in your feedback. By the way, the name you chose is appropriate...nice ride!

One day....I'm going to get a friend to scan in a picture of my car so I can add to my signature!!

Guy who riuns the shop is Ernie. Shop is called Vette Works and all they do is vettes. I have had positive feedback prior to sending the car there. I will keep you posted. Ernie on a personal note seems like a great guy and a vette lover. It took me nearly 4 months to get my car in. All in all seemed to add up to place to have the work done. Hopefully we can meet and you can see the results for yourself.

Hey its your ride. Thats the joy of owning it. Take it out anytime you want and forget about all the little things that can happen to it. If we protected out babies from everything that could ever happen to them we would never drive them. Have fun !!!

That's right...I remember that name. Have heard nothing but good things about his shop and would love to see your car. Hopefully spring will come early for us all!!
