Default Need a very small favour from a fellow '78 owner

Could you please check under your hood, near the firewall/center and you will find a vacuum hose that supplies the vaccum to the headlights to open and close them. There should be two vacuum valves there. One is metal (Vacuum check valve) and has one input port and two output ports. The other one is a white plastic valve (vacuum filter valve) with one input and one output. The output of the white plastic vacuum filter valve goes into the input of the metal check valve. My request is to take the plastic vacuum filter valve off and look inside and tell me what you see. Is it hollow (open) or is there some sort of screen or valve inside?

I would greratly appreciate it. The sympton is slow headlight pop up and down after the first try and no pop up or down after the car has been shut off and it sits for about 2 seconds.

-Thanks for your help

It's a fine plastic mesh screen if I remember right.

Scott78, thanks.... If the screen is missing, should it have any effect on the operations of the lights?

-Thanks

Yup, there should be something there. Nope, it won't effect the function of your lights. It's just an air filter, and you should replace it, but it won't keep your lights from going up and down. I bought a new one from my GM dealer about a year ago, so they're still in stock, as least as of then. You can also get one from Ecklers or another vendor.

Mac,
I took my screen off. For some reason they would not work with it in. Your going to have to check every connection most probably. Also is the motor running ok. Does it die or surge?

Budman, the motor hasa small miss. The lights will pop up and down after I run for a few seconds. The second immedate try they are real slow...Like some vacuum reserve has been depleted. When I turn the car off and try the manual overide, nothng happens. I do have a leak somewhere. Going to get a vacuum guage today and start the hunt.

Your car is loking really nice.
