early 70's BB belt patterns - help !!
We are attempting to understand the belt patterns in the engine compartment of a 73' 454 with AC and PS. Crank only has two pulleys. Three on WaterPump. A small inner belt connects Crank to WP (vertically) PS pump has two pulleys, one which drives the alternator. AC is disconnected but I think is supposed to be driven from the water pump.
Anyway, we think something was left out during the last engine rebuild, and the PS pump has warp damage from being connected incorrectly or mis-aligned.
What we need is a picture or description of the way the belts are supposed to go stock. Belt sizes specified in specs dont fit anywhere, so something is off.
Little help? can somebody snap a pic for me or any info appreciated.

Sounds like you got it right...
Track 1 (closest to engine) runs water pump to crank, 15/32" x 31 7/8".
Track 2 runs crank, water pump and power steering, 15/32" x 44"
Track 3 runs water pump and A/C, 15/32" x 46 1/4".
Alternator runs from P/S only, 3/8" x 30 21/32".
There also was an idler pulley that put tension on the back of the Track 1 belt, but you can probably run without it

1st (rearmost)..waterpump to crank.... Idler pulley (tensioner) pushes in on this belt with A/C only
2nd..waterpump,crank,power steering.
3rd...waterpump,airpump, A/C compressor.
Power steering pump to alternator (seperate belt).

The idler pulley is an assembly, spacer and special stud that mounts to the engine near the left side of the waterpump. It is part of the A/C option. (C60) It is shown incorrectly in the assembly manual. It is a flat non grooved pulley that pushes IN on the 1st belt. The tension is adjusted manually and tightened. ZIP sells the pulley and installation kit. Mine was missing and everything (A/C) worked ok so unless you are having trouble or trying to restore the car you really don't need it. It is kind of a PIA to install and adjust. It also makes using a timing light almost impossible.
