No SC but I wish....

I think the compression on the ZZ4 is too high to put a SC on it. The ZZ4 is 10.5:1 and it has hypertectic pistons. I dont think the motor would last too long if you tried to boost it.

You can spray it however! As long as you keep the amount of spray reasonable! :cool:

Rhys, My son and I put one on a 69 Camaro with a ZZ4. We used an ATI Procharger and intercooler. We also ordered the 650 doublepumoer from them already set up for supercharger. We used the universal installation kit and it worked out great for our application. It was also fairly easy to install, took the two of us about 8 hours. Of course to dial it in you want to start real rich and jet down until you get it right. We installed an air/ fuel meter to help dial it in. The results are incredible. We are somewhere around 550- 570 hp and still very streetable. We did this for a local Doctor and I enjoy driving this Camaro over his 69 427 Vette. I dug up this thread because I was paging thru Hot Rod magazine and noticed an ad for Whipple - the ad shows 2 pics of their s/c on a ZZ4 and mentions hp and torque, both #s start with a "5". :) MJ

How can you SC a 10.5 motor???? Hershey... how much boost is you son running? Does he need to run race fuel????

OK, so it wasnt Hot Rod... It was Super Chevy, May '01 issue. (Maybe this was in a car show goodie bag??). No mention of this package on their website, but in this ad they have two pictures: 1. Whipple Charged ZZ4 on Superflow dyno. and 2. NEW ZZ4 Supercharger package Dyno proven 518 horsepower 544 lbs of Torque Complete bolt-on application with optional tuned BG Carburetor.

(What is a BG Carburetor???)

Yes BG is Barry Grant. he seems to be a fuel system wizard. Makes his own carbs among other fuel related products.
Now the 64000 dollar question is how much is this kit.

I just got off the phone with them.

$3550 for the natural finish
$3850 for a Black finish
$4585 for polished finish!

hummmmm this would cost about the same amount as a ROD6 swap!!!

The guy told me the unit puts out about 6 lbs of boost!

500+ hp!!!!! and almost 550 torque!!!

That is a lot of money for only 500 HP. If you take the cost of a ZZ4 motor and put the supercharger on it that is a lot of money. You can build a 383 with 500+ HP and torque for less than that. But you don't have the cool blower sound. Nitrous on a stock ZZ4 would put you in the 500 HP range also

Rhys, and Mike, sorry I haven't been on the forum in a couple of days to answer your questions. We started out with the 6 pound boost pullys and then switched to the 8 lb pullies, but our guage will often go to 10 lbs of boost when winding it out. Of course the secret as with any supercharger is to maintain plenty of fuel available with the correct pressure and of course we maintain the carb jetting slightly rich at all times. We could probably lean the carb up a little and pick up a few more horses, but we'd rather be safe and run a little rich. With ATI Procharger, Intercooler, Double Pumper, Universal mount kit, Pressure regulator, high pressure electric pump, and $1000 of braided steel lines ( 1/2 in on both pressure and return lines ) there is about $5000 total in the system. Seems high, but this is one beautiful 69 Z28 in show condition, so expense wasn't spared. Also it was someone else's money who expects perfection. Wish I could work under those conditions all the time. Hope this answers some questions. Hershey :chevy :chevy :chevy
