Rear Calipers too big
OK - for those of you falling the saga. I was finally able to bleed my rear calipers but here is the kicker. When I put my wheels back on I found the outside of the caliper did not clear my Cragar SS. Upon further inspection I found the caliper is quite a but wider than the old one. They are both AC/Delco castings however the new one protudes further out where the pistons are. I will try to get some photos up shortly.
I already have spacers on the rear to accommodate the Cragars and think I should put any more on. Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks in advance,

How did you space it out?

These were already installed when I bought the car - when I go out take some pics I will measure the spacers.
Thanks again

I rode this ride when I inquired about the American CP-200 wheels, I sales rep from Jegs told me he tried to put them on a 72 and the calipers wouldn't clear.
Others said no problem. Turns out as you discovered there are at least two different size Delco calipers

You sure you don't have a front caliper mounted in the rear, I THINK the mounting bolts/mount pattern is the same, so it will fit, but in fact the rears are allways smaller bores and smaller size caliper externally....

Re: Rear Calipers too big (mrvette)
My wife asked the same question. However, by looking at the bleeder config - there are 3 on the rears and only one on the fronts. After she asked I had to do a double take myself. Upon further inspection of the old and new calipers it appears that there are at least two different Delco castings.

While there are some subtle differences between them, I had never heard that one caliper type was physically larger than the others. Anything is possible though... What are the casting numbers?

Re: Rear Calipers too big (Scott A)
when i have put my cragar on my vette i had the same problem maybe the previous owner did what the shop suggested me :grind off some metal from the caliper.they told me that they were doing it often.but I've just used a larger spacer as my tires were also too close to the trailing arm.

Re: Rear Calipers too big (zzrck)
Thanks everyone who replied. This place rocks!! I will get the casting numbers tomorrow. However, these are brand new delco castings from Ecklers, so I don't know if they will fall in the list.
