Default Speedo for '82 That reads Higher Than 85?

My neighbor just bought a '82 Collector Edition and was wondering if anyone makes an after market speedometer that reads higher than 85 mph.

Please e-mail me if you know of any.

Thanks in advance.

there is a place where they will convert it for you...I don't know where or who it is...hopefully someone will chime in. Just letting you know there is a place.

I have an 82 CE also and was going to do this too.
I think places like Zip, Ecklers, etc. will replace the face if you send in the original(for odometer purposes). I can't get to my catalogs right now but I think these two do it.

Red line (1-800-375-2310) do a 140mph exchange speedo. They send you it & give you a certain time in which to send your 85mph one back to them. Great service, really impressed with them. The only downside is if you want to keep your original speedo for whatever reason.

I have on of those from ecklers, it reads up to 160 or so mph. Since I'm going zf6 I have no use for it and will sell if the price is right, the speedo has about 1600 miles on it and is in absolute pristine condition. This is the one for the 82 with the VSS hardware in it

If you want a 140mph unit, get AC/Delco part number 25016830. I have it in my 82 CE, and it works great. I was even able to set the mileage correctly to keep it current!

Thank you all for your responses. I'll pass this information on to my friend and let him decide which way he wants to go.

What's VSS stand for and what does it do? Next question, how does my friend know if his cars has it? (Question 2 may become obvious depending on the answer to question 1).

I have never used this company but kept them in my favorites list on my browser. May want to give them a call.

VSS is Vehicle Speed Sensor. My '81 has it to let the ECU know what insane speeds I'm driving at ;) There are 3 (or was it 2?) wires coming out of the Speedo just to the RHS of the cable (looking from the rear). Red Line had no problem supplying a speedo with a VSS (even though I didn't know I should have it, so I didn't ask for it). Just tell them the year & model & they send you the correct speedo, with whatever mileage showing that you ask for :)
