Default hide your verts

Please?? For me??? The more I see a C3 vert the more tempted I am to sell my '77 coupe and buy a vert. What about making mine a vert??? I can get a POS '72 hard top vert for $1,000. I could hang the '77 fenders and chassis on it, and use the '72 cab and rear deck. Hmmmm...then I'd be smog safe...even though I don't care about smog crap anyway(I have no converter or smog pump AIR stuff). Then I'd have a '72 vert with '77 fenders etc. The '72 has some crap mako wannabe bumpers on it(no chrome, so don't worry). I won't do it, but its nice to dream.

I WANT A C3 ROADSTER :cuss

Anyone wanna trade? We can trade after I finish my engine detail...What'dda say? paint's only 3-4 months old. :jester

Happy new year.

Daniel

Doesn't it just drive you nuts?
When I was looking for my Corvette one of the requirements was that it HAD to be red. Now that I've found the forum and seen the sig files with yellow cars I wish that I had been more open minded.

it does make me mad. But, I am just going to keep what I have and be thankful. :jester

Actaully Im trying to save about 5-10K, Im going to invest it and hope in 8 years when Im out of college, its mature enough to buy me the 'vert I want. I know its a gamble, but Im still younge, so I can afford a gamble. :)

I also doubt, even if it does mature, it will mature more then 50%(I know it won't), but if I have $5K, and come out with $8K, its still a wonderful start. Not to mention I'll be in school for 8 years, so its a good time, because I won't be tempted to draw it out, simply because I will probably forget about it being tied up with school work.

Its just an idea right now...I have to research things first. It may end up on a CD or maybe I'll buy stock, or just put it in a savings acount...we'll see...

What about that 72? $1000.00, not too bad for a parts investment. If you don't want it, I might.

the guy says $2500, but I think if you walk up with a grand, he'll droll and let it go...The car is the pits. 'Glass strands showing through everywhere. Cracked fenders...no interior...it'd need everything. About all its good for is what I said, using the bird cage and rear for a project custom. The rear bumper is another mako wannabe. Perhaps a good start to a '80 Big block vert. Theres no motor or tranny, but its a 4 speed and the linkages are there. He says it has an engine, its just "in the corner of the garage". So if you bought it as is, I think it'd go for a grand, if he'd be willing to sell it as is, instead of sending the box-o-parts with it(some parts are just thrown inside)...It also has a cracked window...as I say...'80 vert...maybe something like what merlin is doing(daytona front end)....Thats it. Its a shame. I think its a '72...I know it used ot be a chrome bumper...so its '68-'72...but Im sure its a '7-...so '70-'72....

Daniel
PS. I do want it, but not enough $$$ to buy something that will sit for 8 years while I go to school.

Actually i was looking into it...all you need is the rear deck, that little flip up panel, then all the top components, and like 2 or 3 new interior peices.. Or you could just go hard top, then you won't need all the top components yet. I think it could be done for about $2500 painted(you doing a lot of the work, and them only painting the back half of the car). If you added the rag top, it'd be a lot more.

Oh ya, or you can just find a totaled 'vert, and use parts and peices from that. You just need one with a good back end...maybe one that was crushed from the front would work.

IF you can find a clear title and body/frame from a chrome shark for a grand, I think you should jump on it....just that vin tag and title are worth that.....
then you can take your car's parts and fix it your way....time consuming...

Grass is always greener. Drive your vette. Enjoy it. Get a vert when you get done with school. You will need the extra cash. :seeya

How many guys your age do you know that drive a vette to school. A vert would be nice, but your still way ahead of the game. Be proud that you have a good head on your shoulders. BTW i like the investment idea. Who knows what might be available after eight years. You might find something much better.

I own a Frankenvette!! I think my car started out as a 73 ragtop, but was converted to a 1980 ragtop with a 77 coupe frame. In speaking with a vette resto shop here in Charlotte,he says he can convert a coupe to convertible for a reasonable price if you ever decide to do it. My requirement when searching for a vette was it had to be a ragtop, and I can't live without it.

Regards,

Jim
